Haven't been around for a bit, but I've noticed whilst cruising around the forum, that at least 2 people have Banned written under their names......?
Is this some cool new thing to do or something? Or have I missed some heated arguments somewhere????????

Just curious.........:)

Members get banned for several reasons, people who post Spam are banned forever and their posts usually deleted.

Other members get banned for breaching rules on innappropriate content or mainly for attacks on other members. Remember we have a demerit points scheme operating, so most non-spammer members will only be banned (suspended) for a period of several days to three months.

It's all explained in the AULRO FAQ (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/faq.php)

A little while ago I posted a comment in a thread, I was trying to follow the name and shame rules and not go overboard....

A moderator changed one word of my comment, I wasn't sure if they thought that it was a spelling mistake or a deliberate attempt at avoiding the swear filter or an attempt to convey another meaning entirely.

Anyways, without knowing why they changed it, I decided to change it back....

I then received an infraction from a second Moderator.

The second Moderator that gave me the infraction was very polite and was just doing his/her job, however that second Moderator also explained why the word was changed and that there was a discussion amongst Moderators about the content of my comment and that they decided to leave the post there with just the changing of one word.

I do not have an issue with the second Moderator......
However the first Moderator (in my opinion) should have explained what the second moderator took the time to do so, so I would know what the limitations are and subsequently don't go to far in the future.

I am a moderator on another forum that is a lot more descriptive than this one and as such am aware of the need for effective communication when limits have been reached or breached.

I would like to talk further about the word that I used but will not put it here because I would expect to be "moderated" and infringed again by the first Moderator.... But the word that I used in the context that I used it in can mean a number of things (including "Mouthy") but the Moderators maybe did not see it the way that I may have intended to come across and read something else into it and without asking me why I used such a word.

Anyways, still a bit upset at the lack of communication from the first Moderator, it is the first infraction that I have ever received on a forum, although I have noted that some of my posts on here have been modified or deleted before by Moderators with no communication as to why.

Mike.

Yeah, good communication does help and for this I must applaud Ron (p38arover) for contacting me over a post which I posted in good faith ( a few months back) and on second reading it appears I said something that was not intended. Ron pm'd me for an explanation rather than just pinging me. It was cleared up ( I reworded the post) and all were happy!!:D

sometimes people simply don't have the time to explain all the rationale behind their actions..

they are volunteers that give a lot of their time to keep this place with in the guidelines and orderly

if you have an issue send a message to the moderator or report the post and have your say.

no one has yet been banned for daring to question a decision in a polite manner...

very little is just done off the bat

generally speaking, the majority opinion of several moderators is obtained before being acted upon

pretty hard to please everyone all the time but an effort is made.

I 've had a few warnings/infractions from mods.

Each time they explained why.

I have had mods very courteously speak to me about my "ramblings" and I accept and appreciate it.

That's why we have them, that's why this is an ace forum.

Keep up the exceptional work you mods.

Thanks for that Inc. we who have been members for a number of years do understand what you are saying and I think (me being old school) your words "polite manner" should be used at all times. I understand that some of the members are more (shall we say) "firey" than others and it makes it difficult for a moderator to be polite when a "firey" member is chewing him/her up.

On the other hand if a person agrees to be a moderator they should set aside the time to moderate properly. If they are time poor, they should not be moderating.

Anyrate that's my 02C worth ( in a polite manner I might add):p:D:D

so you get a PM saying leave it alone your being bated by a troll ( effectively) and then a couple of days latter you get banned by another Mod? i have no issue with being told by a mod to pull my head in, i know i get carried away and am a prime target for some. others can see it i can not.

I can't believe anyone would complain about being "moderated" this this forum. I often get dodging the swear filter infringements.... 'cos that's just how I've always typed on forums and do it without realising .... No biggie.

If you guys like getting "moderated" ... head over to the caravaners forum. If your a moron or an anal fruitcake you'll be tolerated fine (eg: post blatantly incorrect ****, or voluminous gibberish bull**** from regulations websites).

I got banned for example 'cos I said "It's perfectly safe to file down a 15amp extension lead earth pin and plug into a 10amp powerpoint .... So long as you don't draw more than 10amps ..... which woudl be almost impossible if your running just lighting to pack/unpack the caravan at home". My 2 posts were not exactly friendly but they weren't bad by any stretch. I only asked 1 person to clarify their point of view on double pole protection on GPO's in vans and told a guy who wanted to put a UPS in his caravan he was just adding weight and if was just trying to keep up with the Jones's

The description of an event as "a hundred year event" doesn't mean there will only be one of them a century.

For an explanation of why that is the case, read one of the following.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100-year_flood
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_period
Why do 100 year events happen so often?: Australia's Record Rainfall: Rainfall Events: Design Rainfalls: Water Information: Bureau of Meteorology (http://www.bom.gov.au/water/designRainfalls/rainfallEvents/why100years.shtml)
