I've just had a message appear on the dash. Brake light switch failure. A quick check and removal of the switch and I agree! It looks like it got pretty hot :(
New switch to be installed later today

How did you go with the new switch? Will the same happen to the new one?

New switch is in and working ($35 from local LR Dealer) hopefully it's not going to suffer the same fate as its predecessor.

By chance do you have a trailer brake controller too? A mate had the same thing happen and it came down to the brake controller cooking the brake switch.

I wired my brake controller in to the brake light wire at the BECM. Seemed a lot easier than climbing under the dash to tap in to the brake switch.

No trailer brake controller. My boat trailer has override brakes. I did hire a small trailer over the weekend though for a few mulch collections and tip runs. Possibly dodgy wiring on the hire trailer?

Seems like it's something worth looking at with the brake controller and possibly a job for a relay

I had a similar switch failure on my old d2, it didn't have a brake controller fitted, I put it down to high resistive contacts.
