For those of us interested in astronomy, here is an interesting chart showing the worlds largest telescopes. I remember when the Hale 200" on Mt Palomar in USA was the largest, but it is now dwarfed by some of the latest ones.:D The ones planned for the future are absolutely mind blowing.

thanks for that - the 3.9m AAT just doesn't figure on the chart - at least it still does some good work :)
A friend has a 30" reflector that you can actually look through. It is set up on a dark mountain near Bendemeer (too cold atm).

I notice my 5.5" doesn't rate a mention.

The biggest telescope I have ever owned was an 8" Newtonian reflector. I would love to have a look through a 30" telescope. Anyrate, in my old age I'm getting soft and look on the internet nowadays for my astronomy fix, too cold outside.:D
