Anyone know this car? I like the roadworthy commentary.

Thats a very well presented vehicle and it looks great, but I think the price is just a bridge (or 2) too far...

Shows what a few dollars can do to build a capable off-roader/tourer.
It may seem a lot but not when compared to a new 4WD.

True, and it's a great rig, but it is nearly 15 years old, no matter what's been done to it, which will make most people turn away IMO.

I thought the same thing. Where is Mike. I did message him on eBay and he never responded.

It would be interesting to see the engineers reports that approve the body lift and conversion to coil springs.

Mike allegedly turned out to be a scammer. His 'get out of paying parking tickets' was just one of many rip off schemes he ran apparently.
Owed lots of money to people (talking 6 zeros.)
Rangie was probably repossessed.
BigJon. Me too. I get the feeling the rwc inspector he uses might be a little...uhh...shortsighted....when it comes to some aspects of the car ;)

There was no mention of it ever having a RWC. Thought body lifts were a no no wrt RWC. Its nearly 20 yo. Everybody knows - you don't recoup your outlay. Not on a car like this.
Now my P38. That is worth $32K. Anybody want to buy it?

The same car was posted recently in another thread. From that thread, it's a Matar Motors car:

Hi
To quote a great Australian "Tell him he's dreaming" :p
It's a BOSCH motor with GEMS intake?
I don't like the headlights or the side vents and carrying the spare on the roof is a no no for me.
So maybe drop a decimal place off the price :wasntme:

I guess you could use a THOR block and heads, but then it really becomes a GEMS anyway once you hook up the GEMS stuff
The other thing which I don't like is the amount of airflow those lights block out.
And given all the HID stuff on it I wonder what alternator it has and how long the BECM will last !

I'd pay $12-14k max, with an engineers certificate.
As said, you never get close to what you put into cars in terms of resale.
I know a bloke who built up a D2 with a 5L V8, almost every other option, rims, tyres, etc. He took a $70k loss selling it.

Agreed. Most people dont realise how much they spend on mods. Think how much you have spent over the years on the LRs and it adds up quickly. I think given the work its on the high side but still worth a decent price range. New 4wds are $80k stock, the add gear and its quickly $100k...

It could be Matars own vehicle, in which case all the gear has been snaffled from other vehicles being broken. A tidy profit, if he manages to find a buyer.

It is his car. I've been to his workshop in Thomastown picking up some bits and pieces for my 89.
I'm usually there before he opens, and I've seen him rock up to work in it.
(it sounds very nice indeed!)
There is also a second one that is not quite so modded.
But as mentioned, parts pinched from other vehicles, so tidy profit follows. ;)

Although I know him as Sam(), it's definitely Matar's own car as I have seen it and gone over it with him at Thomastown a month or so ago.
Before he was out North in the industrial shed he worked out of domestic garages at his home over in the inner West (near/in Newport). Most of the photo's in this ebay ad are taken out front of his home there. I know that because I bought some bits off him there a few years ago.
Up close, it's a great looking car with MASSIVE presence. And it has some really cool mod's. Personally, I like the dash treatment of raising the HEVAC. Although I think it should have made room for relocated BECM and EAS Modules below... perhaps fronted by a nanocom screen. Then a slightly smaller screen on top of the dash for combo GPS and digital media/entertainment. It is ridiculously high, and at 6'4" I reckon I would struggle to get in and out of it easily. Anyone short, or with "ducks disease" :wasntme:would need a step ladder or perhaps a mini trampoline to bounce on and get up and in!!!
Apparently, it goes really well off road but gets a little floaty at highway speeds. Personally, I wouldn't touch it without a complete and current engineer's report. Unless of course it was staying on my own property as a fun truck (or something like that). In saying that, I am pretty sure Sam would be expecting buyers to want one and probably already has it lined up. With that in place RWC would be a piece of pee-pee.
One thing you can bet on is that Sam would have used the best parts, off of the best donor cars on his own vehicle.

Hi Andy,
I am pretty certain that Matar Motors is something like that... I think I recall that they use Tarek as part of an email address.
Glad to hear your still kicking. I have a heap more shirt and sticker ideas for your better half too...
