Hi there,

after a 7 month wait I got to drive my new 110 for the first time and wow I new I'd like it but the truth is I absolutely love it :D From the looks to the drive itself its better than I could every imagine it was going to be!

The ride is great along with the seating position. It's even quieter than I was expecting and it seems a lot perkier than the MY14 I test drove before placing the order. I ended up placing the order with a dealer in Mackay for a couple of reasons (I'm in Brisbane), and seemed to have great service the entire time including a heap of updates and photos of the build up with the accessories I choose - update thread found here

So it came time to have it transported to Brisbane and call me paranoid but I decided to get the truck delivered to MR Automotive for a just in case check over - glad I did.

They found the transfer case oil needed another 500ml and the gear box oil down 750ml. Do you think I can ask for some reimbursement considering the pre-delivery inspection was not done well if at all considering there was no inspection check-list provided?

They also found the paint job on the roof where the front angled section met the flat was a bit off and maybe corroded underneath

and there was lots of underbody rust

There's more inside the front bumper etc. but you get the picture. So my question is what should I do? Is this stuff covered under warranty or is this normal with brand new Land Rovers? I was going to get spray on rust proofing so should I just let the sort it out for me in the process? All advise is very appreciated :D

Cheers,
Ant.

Ant, I'll be watching this with interest!

I picked my 90 up a couple of months ago and notice a couple spots with rust e.g. exhaust hanger. TBH I didn't think it was a major issue but my 90 doesn't seem to have as much in the way of rusty section as your does.

The one thing I might do, as you did, is book it in with MR for a check.

I better go out and have good look now!

Tim I think that's a good idea mate considering everything especially the missing oil.

MR were recommended on this forum and they have been worth the money regardless of the outcome with the dealership :)

Just take it to the Brisbane land rover dealer, and get them to sort it out.

Why would you be paying someone else when they have a obligation to rectify issues for free.

Regarding the rust on the exhaust hangars etc go to any local new car dealer that sells utes and have a look at the cab chassis without a tray. You'll find most of them will have rust on those sorts of things. Our Defenders were the same.

Looking at the pictures though yours doesn't look particularly clean underneath for a brand new car. Was it a demo?

I wonder if Land Rovers sold in the UK, have any form of underbody protection, or are they uncoated?

I had the 130 done when new to protect the underside.

So far the dealerships response has been overwhelmingly positive! When I get some more details over the next few days I'll post them up :)

Loneranger yes it's brand new unfortunately which is a little disappointing

Not sure sorry Landybitz but after the spray-on soundproofing and ceramic I'll be getting the rust proofing done for certain

In that case, I'd be following it up. When we were doing the auxiliary 12 volt wiring on my 110 when it was 6months old we could still see our reflection in the muffler.

Hopefully they'll sort it out for you.

That's absolutely disgraceful - can you imagine any of the other 4WD manufacturer's dishing up that woeful standard and expecting the public to think it was acceptable quality. No wonder the general public thinks they're bad and unreliable. Given they can provide good finishes to Discos and RR's, they are displaying utter contempt for the Defender faithful.

btw, they're very good photos you've taken- what sort of camera do you have??

Most of the ones we delivered was the same. rusty hangers and some bolts here and there. I think mine has some but not as bad to be on the exhaust. they just put it down to time spent at sea lol.

my roof had a little of that too. Over time from flexing the paint in that area has split

The roofs don't normally go like that so soon, had mine done under warranty, no Issues from Bruce Lynton they just agreed it required attention and sorted it.

Maybe yours was on the transporter that turned semi turtle, although I think most of them were damaged.
