Looking at a product "BIOPCM? is a bio-based Phase Change Material" have a look at BioPCM | Know More (http://phasechange.com.au/know-more)

The ICE water/drink explains it fairly well. The PCM materials options have higher or lower freezing points where they move from liquid (or gas) to Solids or back from Solids to liquid (or gas) but work on the same principles.

The above site talks about reviews several products including PCM in glass, Plaster, flooring and more. I checked out the plaster today. It is not in Australia yet. Sold in Europe via Knauf which is here but not yet selling it- DOH.

"In 2009, Charles Sturt University's Thurgoona campus at Albury (pictured above) was apparently the first in the world to use phase change materials in their concrete flooring. PCMs were also integrated in the plasterboard ceilings."

Smart UNI!

BASF and DuPont in the market with product which are slowly coming in to main stream here. I can see the Glass mentioned in America and Europe
GlassX Crystal | GlassX - Thermodynamic Glazing (http://www.glassxpcm.com/products/glassx-crystal/) and in China
GLASSX AG - GLASSX.CH English (http://glassx.ch/index.php?id=314)

People at phasechange.com.au here are doing modeling for me to see the estimated impact of placing PCM in Roof, Walls or between floors. (My house will be two story house )

I will post once I see the information. I am only looking at BIOPCM as the other products look tricky as they are not readily available in Australia.
It seemed to make a lot of sense but would love your thought and experiences please.

IIRC there was a set of seat covers available through Exmoor Trim that used some sort of PCM.BMW also had an insanely expensive motorcycle suit that had PCM in its construction.

The short version as to why it works.

it generaly takes more energy to induce a phase change, than to just change the temperature of a substance using water as an example at 1 aTM.

it takes ~4.2Kj per kilo to raise the temperature one degree from 1-100 degrees
it then takes 2270 Kj to heat that kilo of water to turn it into steam at 100 degrees. Theres no temperature change its just a phase change
it then takes ~2kj per kilo to raise the temperature of all that steam one degree (and then it gets complicated because of pressure and volume)

when you reverse the process in theory you get all that energy back but entropy takes its share.

The hard part is coming up with a suitable substance that will do that phase change in a way thats convenient for you at a temperatire you'd like to maintain. Hard enough to do as a refrigerant but especially difficult you want to build stuff with it.

Lot to read but worth it in my thoughts. Fig 9 has me spending some cash to install assuming the supplier returns my call.

Running a passive Phase Change Material PCMs test you might like to see
Posted on whirlpool Green teach

My renovations is at lock up stage with 80% of the PCM I did buy installed. Tonight I put a temperature logger in the house and another in the Garage. I will add outside temp to a graph in 24 hours.

A few limitations and notes
1-Trades people builder may leave front door open while on site.
2-House currently has no active heating. It is fully insulated.
3-A about another 8 boxes of PCM yet to be installed in the internal wall cavities down stairs still. PCM is "Mat Q25" from http://phasechange.com.au/product (http://phasechange.com.au/product)
4- Temp logged every five minutes by http://www.jaycar.com.au/p/QP6013 (http://www.jaycar.com.au/p/QP6013)
5- Garage is under the house with brick walls and suspended concrete slab above ( house floor) so has significant thermal mass above, Concrete floor. It is not sealed very well due to the garage door type and two windows which are double glazed but not yet finished around the frames.
6- House is 5 star rated (my bet it is it is better than the rating suggest)
7- Average min temperature here is about 6 and avg max 14.4
8- Other 8 boxes of PCM are in the building in the box still on the floor
/archive/1358607 (https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1358607) /archive/2338083 (https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2338083) and /archive/2476834 (https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2476834) also have some details of PCM Given this is a (basic) passive only test run I have posted it separately
I will post graph tomorrow night and again once the rest of the PCM is installed. I will also see if I can put a data logger in another new house not yet occupied in the same street for the next 24 test run. This should be interesting.

Ignore the times- It is over 24 hours
I Noted
There was no difference between the house and garage under the house. Not surprised by this give the massive thermal mass of house above and ground under garage The actual variance will between out side and inside will be checked using the data logger from the garage tomorrow. The temp outside was at first 0.8 higher than the house at 17.17p. After that the temp out side drops and changes a lot far more rapidly than inside. Given the insulation it is impossible at present to attribute the moderation to the PCM alone. Hope to re test with the other house next week.

I cannot post the graph here sorry, It does show a 'significant' moderation of the outside temperature which varied 5.4 low to 13.1 high outside and 9.7 low to 12.3 high. The change outside 7.7 degrees compared to 2.6 change inside.
