View Full Version : Is the softdash the same as a late d1 dash?

Just wondering if the dash out of a late d1 is the same as in the classic soft dash models.
Typically the plastic has cracked around the windscreen vents and am wondering which way too go.

No but the whole D1 dash can be fitted into an earlier Classic so it could well fit easier into a 'soft dash' RRC.

I could be facetious and ask 'why bother'? as the demister is pretty average (compared to "other" brands of oriental 4WDs) or be nasty and suggest knocking up papier-mache vents....they'll last longer!

But, hand-making some plywood ones and dark-staining them would perhaps be the nicest look.
A good D1 dash would be as old...and brittle .... as your RR one, so chances are it would'nt be a safe bet.

What about a P38 dash and interior.... some of the P38's with blown air bags and buggered engines still (so are essentially parts cars) seem to have really nice interiors!

Thanks Scouse, I just want sure if one would fit. Maybe even a d2 dash as they're quite nice.

The demisters I've found quite good. A couple of minutes will de-ice the windscreen; but as its a project car I want it to look original.

The p38 dashes are nice, but they are almost twice the depth, and a good few inches wider.

I've been looking at Vintage Air in USA (and a few other a/c companies). They all make really nice units, modern, much smaller, with selections of vents etc. Was quoted about US$1300 for complete unit (less shipping)
Was thinking of going that route, plus DakotaDigital instruments, again, modern, pulse speedos (or GPS if you want). Both companies make really nice stuff, I figure US$875 for complete new modern instrument binnacle, in your choice of color/back light etc etc, is not too bad.

The A/C is the '92 model I have is quite good ....................... For a car that's a 1970 design. way better than the french cars of that era.

If you order in a Vintage air system.... install the thing yourself and ask on here.... I'm sure there will be someone in your area that has a vac pump and some bang gas. It's only abut $10.00 of gas to fill most systems with a charge of HR12.

I've got a mate that has all the gear for the hychill gas - was wrapped when he told me about it!

I'll measure up my cousins d2 dash next time I see him, just to make sure the instrument clutter and center console will match up.

Main difference from memory was the instrument binnacle. The soft dash didn't have any switches surrounding it.
