I am considering buying a td4 Freelander 2 and have read a fair bit about them. Just a few questions.
- When did they sort out the problems with the rear diff?
- when they did the model upgrade in 2013 did they make any changes to the Diesel engine or drive train or was it more cosmetic?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Greg,
Unsure of upgrades but I feel that somewhere from 2012 onwards all issues were addressed, Land Rover service people have pretty much said that the Freelander 2013 has been pretty much bullet proof.

Many thanks for the advice that in I have been able to get from throughout this site. I picked up a 2010 Freelander HSE last night with 63k on the clock. It's been well looked after and is pretty much spotless. I keep waiting to hear some noise from the rear diff but nothing as yet...

The July issue of Land Rover Owner International now on sale has a good story on the history of the Freelander which might interest you and answer some of your questions.

What about the earlier diesels? My budget will be around the $6-7,000 mark so buying post 2012 isn't an option.

The cheapest FL2 on car sales is $15k with 200k on the clock. Not much hope in your price range.

My description was rather more colourful. I was under the misunderstanding that the FL2 came in with the BMW engine. I've since been correctly informed and am now looking at FL1s, with the Bimmer diesel.

Hi All,
While not new to Landrovers Freelander 2 are new to me.
Looking to replace my wifes shopping trolley and would like to hear thoughts and experiences from owners of 2007 - 2009 Freelander 2 auto with Si6 - 3.2 6 cylinder engine.
Like to know from owners what their experience has been.... Kms done and any issues.
There's not many TD4's in Perth in my price range and currently the above
vehicles 67Kms are around 22K and something with 119Kms are 17K in value.
Alternative can pick up a Ford Territory 2011 with 2.7 Diesel 6 cylinder with 78kms for 25K ......though I do have a soft spot for the Landrover badge.
Cheers

The i6 petrol is a bit thirsty for my taste. If you want to go off road at all then the FL2 is streets ahead of the Territory. There was a Territory on a trip with us a few weeks ago and it fair dinkum got stuck on a clay speed bump, basically had no traction control at all and rubbish clearance. It ended up bending a bracket holding the petrol tank that then started rubbing on the driveshaft. We were thinking of using it as a grader...:)
