Hi,

Received my RAVE and EPC disks today - they are great.

I tried e-mailing back to Dave with some questions but the e-mail bounced each time - so I will list the questions here - maybe Dave or someone else can answer the queries.

EPC - installed but a couple of questions

1. Must I activate the alternate Orbix Daemon and the database server before I can use EPC each time - guess I know the answer just need confirmation - A little macro that auto opens them before EPC should get around this.

2. A new user appeared on my computer called ' job producer' - I have removed this - will this impact on the operation of EPC.

3. On starting Windows a new window pops up that asks me to wait 2 minutes for databases to become fully operational - this stops windows loading until I click OK - where has this come from?

Thanks

Howdy

In short:

1.No, as you suspected, the auto macro does it for you.

2. Again, no, but from what I can gather, if you want to have the job pricing feature, then you'd log on with that ID, and you would be able to have a cost estimate (inc labor). Since (generally) we provide our own labor, you'd don't need it. Deleting that user hasn't harmed my EPC.

3. Thats part of the overall system. Meant for PC's which are on all day - like those at a LR dealership. PITA on a normal PC - I found an old laptop and since it runs on 12v, use it exclusively for EPC and RAVE. Much faster than fiddling with disks.

NB: When you run EPC make sure you are disconnected from the internet. My copy tries to log onto unipart ( ?) , and if the EPC freezes, try disabling the Antivirus for 5min, and run EPC again. (Another good reason to run it disconnected from the internet)

PPS: If anybody reading this has some other bright ideas about getting rid of the startup wait 2min screen, feel free- I'm only dangerous, not talented.

Thanks - for the tips

I have to manually start the Orbix daemon and Database server each time I want to use EPC - now that I have got used to it - I have a shortcut for each of them on the desktop next to EPC, so a couple of cliks and everything is up and running.

I am connected to the internet all the time but don't have the issue you have of wanting to auto connect to unipart.

The 'wait 2 minutes' window is a bit of a pain when stating as I switch my computer off off the time - if anyone knows how to get rid of it please let us all know.

Cheers
