Hey guys,

I have had my Ex-Mil Perentie for some time now and i am lookng at trying to stop 'Some' of the rattles around the place.

As the doors don't line up at the moment correctly and alot of bolts are loose i was thinking about replacing the rusty old bolts for newer stainless ones!

I have seen around the place that there are stainless bolt kits for Defenders & 110s in general but I'm not sure what i would be missing from the kit as it would be going on the Perentie. Also these are not soft top models.

So to the point: Does anyone know where i can get a kit for the perentie or would the standard defender 110 kit do the job?

Thanks!

Make sure you insulate the stainless bolts from aluminium panels. The stainless-aluminium interface creates electrolysis and enhances corrosion of the alloy.

For rattles, the best prevention is to place a flexible membrane between the panels. Something like butyl-mastic is ideal.

I am surprised to see a number of these kits out there this being the case... Wonder how its being done not to cause damage....

Its not just for rattles though but also because a lot of the bolts are heavily rusted.. Any other recommendations ?

Thank you!

I'm not recommenting against the stainless bolts, just there is a need to insulate where they are bolted through or onto alloy. A fibre washer is more than sufficient.

Most of the bolts that are replaced in these kits are on door hinges where the hinge is cast steel against a pressed steel firewall.

Theres other better reasons not to go with stainless.

I'll lead with galling

Thanks! If your's is a cargo or FFR, you probably only need a kit for a 90 and even that will have additional bolts for the rear door which your's won't have.

Stainless bolts and other stainless products have been utilised on Land Rovers for years, take the nessecery steps to stops electrolysis and you will be fine.

Try this link for a set for the 2 door.

If you are doing you hinge bolts you may as well replace your hinges with the later model version as well. Hank sure could do with some, as there is a lot of play in all of them.
