Can anyone tell me why these dual axle trailers are grabbing such high prices? Didn't see the end of the last auction but one was from memory at about $5300!! For a basic trailer they seem to be over priced, would still love to pick one up but $2-2.5k would be more on the money.

They are worth what someone is willing to pay.

Simplicity independent suspension is worth the money, built by haulmark. Not cheap trailer 2000 rubbish. not sure i would spend the money but good quality trailers

Have you had a good look at these?

I do not think that you would be able to get the single axle Haulmark model in the price range you state, and the tandem axle model is probably a bargain at the current price level for those who know what they're buying.

Not too many cheap single axle trailers would take this load of ironbark regularly ...

Cause overengineering costs.

I know what it say it can do and I know what IVe made them do. Taint one snd the same thing.

If your correct dave, then they have been 'de-rated' but over engineered.. Not a bad thing..I've had a number of Haulmark trailers and they are Mickey mouse interms of quality..but de-rating a good trailer is not much use to anyone who wants to use the trailer to its potential (above 2t GVM)

Hey, Summiitt,
Looks as though I'll be getting my two before you get yours.
I put in a bid of $3,000 on a bent one at Manheim. Didn't get it.
I wish you could pick them up for $2k.

you;ve got to look at that 2T rating.

its not just 2t on pavement.

its also not derated, the design of the brake design limits the maximum weight of the trailer.

I like to think of it as one of the few things the ADF got right on the purchasing spec which I like to imagine as being a phone call to haulmark that went somethig like this.

Hi, haulmark, yeah look its the ADF we want you to build us a tralier that we can stick a bit over what someone whos got no idea how much stuff weighs would call a ton in and then hook it up to a vehicle to be driven by some of the dumbest humans that were ever given liscenses by people who dont really care and are just using the driver course to get away from their bosses, they'll be treated in ways that make your average rental car shiver in fear then breath a sigh of relief and then most likely be maintained by people whove been relegated down to only servicing trailers because their last mechanical aptitude review rated so low that "can tie his shoelaces with supervision" would be conisidered to be a favorable improvement. Then when that person get sick of doing it we'll farm it off to some civvy who'll make all those other people look like einstein, the stig and JC.

Oh yeah, would we be asking too much of you to expect that when we dont use them all to death and then sell them off in near pristine condition because they dont get towed due to our own bureaucratic processes and tape that people are going to complain about how much they have to pay for them compared to a second hand rusted out kmart special tandem made in china and being resold for the nTh time with shoddy rubber and dodgy electrics on gumtree?

No? that'll be $23000 a piece and we can have any colour so long as its green? Sure, box me up 70 or so and see if you cant finialise delivery till just before we end the life of type for the vehicle thats allowed to tow it.

Cheers.

I love my single axle Haulmark (MY03), it was only 8 years old when I got it at auction. The tandem suspension on the larger trailers is something special.

Have you noticed that the G-Wagens seem to be towing exactly the same trailers but with Alloy rims the same as the G-Wagen.

(Why didn't they just retrofit new axles?)

I believe there is also a design reason that it wasn't just a matter of replacing the hubs with ones that suited the Merc rims.

If you look carefully at the new replacement trailers they do differ in some respects to the ones we have.

I'm personally pleased that they went the way they did because it let me get my mits on one :).

Since the above pic in post#4 was taken I've rigged a deck on the long a-frame with a trimcast type storage box to carry the chainsaw / ancillaries, and extras.

I've read where some people reckon that the replacement single axle trailer costs the ADF close to $40k :o

On my A frame I've rigged up a spare wheel carrier using a Disco 1 rear door carrier and some angle. I have to reach back under the wheel to get to the hand brake but that's O.K.

The tandem Haulmarks already have a spare.

P.S I needed a spare because I also tow the trailer behind my D4 which has a different PCD.

I relocated my handbrake lever to the side

been thinking about getting one of these trailers - are the dual axle ones much heavier?
