Well, apparently, it's on the go, the script's being written, & Top Gun 2 is going to happen, again starring Tom Cruise as the infamous Maverick.
Top Gun is one of my favourite movies, for a number of reasons, so I hope the sequel is just as good.
Now, I know all the "experts" will say "it's a load of crap", ra ra ra etc, so I'm waiting for that, couldn't care less, I enjoyed the movie, & have the DVD, which we've played several times!

So, what is he going to be? The instructor?
Yeah, the first movie was one of the few good "Tom Cruise" movies.

Well, I know he's going to be Maverick, but I guess Maverick could now be an instructor couldn't He?
Whatever, the movie intends to show, "that in the age of drones, the fighter & the fighter pilot are still relevant", so I reckon whatever the role, Tom will be his usual "Tom Cruise self"!!!

Well, he ain't no spring chicken no more.
There are not so many 52yo fighter pilots in the "Top Gun" F/A-18s nowdays.

.....that saddens me.....that I won't be seeing it.
I do not like Tom Cruise one bit , neither as a person nor as an actor.
He doesn't get any of my dollars.

I'm not a Tom Cruise fan, but I don't mind some of his movies though, "The Last Samurai" wasn't too bad..........for a Tom Cruise movie.:)

If an actor is worth their salt then if the character is believable I don't particularly care who it is...
Personally I enjoyed Top Gun...

'Tis a pity they prematurely retired the F-14's. What will they be flying now? F/A-18's aren't as sexy as F-14's, but I suppose most people won't know the difference....

I can't stand Tom Cruise as a person but as a Gung Ho adrenaline fuelled movie Top Gun is hard to beat. I know a lot of military aircrew who still drop Top Gun one liners.

"Top Gun", the best air force recruitment film ever. I don't know how a Mk II movie could replicate the original's raw adrenalin, even now. I say leave it alone as a classic movie.

Top Gun... My brother loved it so I grew up with that blaring in the house seemingly 24/7. If it wasnt being played on the video it was the sound track at the full 50w! When I finally watched the movie in its entirety a few years later, I had not only seen every part already but also knew half of it word for word.
I do like a lot of the movies that Tom Cruise has been in, its probably a part of the reason why he is the megastar that he is. I hope they can pull off Top Gun II as well as the original. Its always a big ask and rarely achieved.

Would have to be F22 Raptors surely. If they use CGI maybe the can get the F35 to fly.

If you've seen 1 Tom Cruise movie you've seen them all. The story may vary but his acting is always the same. He only has 1 character.
Suffice to say I'm not a fan.

For a second I read the topic as Top Gear 2 and thought it was news after the last episode of that aired in the UK last night.
Back on Top Gun, some of the original footage still blows me away and this movie was before I realised Tom Cruise was a (insert choice of expletive here) so I'm still fine watching it. While fighter jets get me all excited, ones that don't need pilots take the edge off. I can always go down to my local park and watch some of the oldies fly their aeroplanes down there (I actually do stop to watch them on my weekend walks...). If the preview looks good, I'll watch in in the cinemas.

Not sure if it was 82 or 84 (?). Mine was apparently the last if the computer injected model. It had a ECU under the rear duck fin. Should have spent the cash and had a new one fitted, instead I had fuel guzzling powerless carbies put on it
I'd have another tomorrow if I could.
I'm not sure we had the 900's out here, only the 1100 and 750's (which were turbo :o )
The 900's we got were a tad later and called the Ninja's. I could be wrong.
But anyway, I'd just like to see what bike he's on :D

Yes it was a 900R ;). I had a 1985 750R which was identical to the 900R, great bike and i was able to keep up with a mates CBR Tigerblade riding the " chain of ponds " in Adelaide.

The efi model came out in 81 i believe , i remember a mate looking at one nearly 20 years ago and it had a hard life.
Everyone we spoke to said to steer clear as parts were non existent.

1985 was the last GPZ1100, the GPZ900R was released in 1984, it was quicker and more nimble, I had a GPZ900R, brilliant bike, great tourer and fast too, the 1100 was a better tourer though I thought, after me and mate swapped bikes on a trip to the Clubman rally in jingellic.

I had sheepskin seat cover on mine, a radio/tape deck strapped to the inside of the fairing with ear plugs.
A trip from Albury up to Nundle, and another up to a a bris, easy as pie. Comfy as a pig in poo :-) used to get off the bike and be ready to go again after a smoke, all the other guys were still rubbing their asses and trying to walk around and get some normality back I their legs :-)
The carbs on mine were its downfall. Nothing beat the injection. Cheap to run and loads of power. 240+ with injection, 210+ with carbs.
And I reckon Tom would be fine on the bike,,, I know I would

or this,,
Even the tragic early death of director Tony Scott can't slow down the progress of Top Gun 2 - a sequel to the massively successful 1980 drama - and today comes news that the movie is taking another big step towards actually getting into production.
Screenwriter Justin Marks, who has been most recently working at Disney on Jon Favreau's upcoming The Jungle Book (http://www.cinemablend.com/The-Jungle-Book-6652.html), is now in deep negotiations with Paramount and Skydance, and should he sign a deal he will be the latest writer brought in on Top Gun 2. It was all the way back in February 2012 (http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Town-Screenwriter-Hired-Script-Top-Gun-2-29730.html) that The Town scribe Peter Craig was first hired to work on the feature, but that was a few months before Tony Scott took his own life.
While there aren't any small details available about the story or info regarding who from the larger Top Gun cast will be returning, what has been confirmed is that the plot will once again center on Tom Cruise's Maverick, and will have to do with the subject manned versus drone aircraft (http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Jerry-Bruckheimer-Confirms-Top-Gun-2-Still-Works-Confirms-Drone-Plot-42333.html). Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who helped make the original film, is one of the driving forces behind the project, having recently moved over to Paramount following the end of his contract with Disney.
Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book could prove to be a bit of a comeback for Justin Marks, and Top Gun 2 could be a stepping stone to some bigger things. His career hit some rocky waters in 2009 when he was the sole-credited writer on the critically-demolished Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun- Li, and he hasn't had a feature made since. The Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/top-gun-2-lands-jungle-731131), which first revealed the news about the development, notes that Marks and Bruckheimer actually have a previous relationship together. A few years ago the writer was apparently hired to pen a film titled War Dogs, "a project centered around military canines." Obviously that movie never got made, but now the scribe and the producer are getting back in business. The Jungle Book is in production now, and Favreau has brought together a stellar voice cast that includes Idris Elba, Bill Murray, Christopher Walken, Ben Kingsley, Lupita Nyong'o, and Giancarlo Esposito.
Paramount and Skydance getting serious about having a script written is certainly an important step for Top Gun 2, but the project's future is a bit unclear. The studios may now find themselves with a clear path towards production, but they could also wind up hating and dumping whatever Marks does, which would force them to start over. Or they could like Marks script and then force him to do 20 re-writes until it's exactly what they want. We'll be keeping track of the whole thing as it gets further into development, so stay tuned for more updates.

One thing's for sure, I don't think that "Ice" will be making an appearance,...he was distinctly chubby the last time I saw him, & I reckon he'd have difficulty fitting into a cockpit?
