Hi all..
A great weekend was had in 2014....
Is there going to be a 2015 rematch yes there will be.

There is a poll here http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/223269-d3-d4-rrs-weekend-where-when.html to pick the date and location for this year, please vote if you are interested in coming.

As with last year there will be drives for those who want a challenge and for those who just want to go offroad and are not experienced or have the tyres to suit, and just want to dip their toe so to speak.

Wood will be supplied for the Saturday communal fire, there will also be souvenir shirts available to buy(provided we have the numbers)

We have added a new venue to keep people interested and for a change of scenery if they want, so vote away please if you want to meet fellow owners of these great vehicles and to get away and enjoy the great Aussie bush for a weekend.

Once we reach a certain number, and an indication of the venue, the team will post this in the Upcoming Trips area and we will get the ball rolling.
Cheers
Daryl

Hi Daryl,
Yes no plans as such just as yet.
I'll be predisposed this year as far as organizing one as I'm away for 5 weeks from Sept and helping running another event for my other 4wd club late October.
Perhaps Baz, Terry, Rob & George may pipe up on the subject.

It's looking like it will be at the same place and same time, last weekend of October, I do have another place option, but there is only a long drop toilet, so may not appeal to the majority.

As long as it is a similar distance, a long drop won't put me off.

Well, we accept all states.
Cane Toads or Mexicans too. ;)
PS please don't make it on the W/E of the 7/8th Nov as I'll be up in that area with another 30/35 vehicles on a club event, could make it a bit busy on some of the trails.

As long as it is a similar distance, a long drop won't put me off.

Is that the distance of the long drop or distance to the venue;)

The long drop is about 4 metres deep.

The venue is near between Oberon and Goulburn.

For us it's 3 & 1/2hrs either way
I'm interested either way, but was wondering is that 24th-25th October, or 31st Oct-1st Nov?

Either of them, but the consenses so far is 24/25th of October, just waiting on one vote and it's set for that date, but I would say the 24/25th is the go.

But first, we need to know there will be enough people coming, this year there might be Shirts and Caps, of coarse permission will need to be given by Incisor(Dave) before that can happen.

So if you want to come, register your interest here, so we can see if there is enough to warrant putting the trip up in Upcoming Events.

Redback,
I missed last yr too so would be keen to make it this time.
Interested to hear more about the alternative too.
Aparently sydney water also conducts 'escorted passage' through Burrogorang valley once a month. That's express access from The Oaks to the Oberon Stock route near Yerranderie.

4ES, we are in the planning stages. more will come to light shortly. The last two events have been based at Lake Lyell camp ground:
Camping at Lake Lyell Recreation Park - NSW (http://www.findacamp.com.au/camp-site.php?camp=493)
The town of Lithgow is very close so you could easily stay at a motel there.
There is a chance we may end up somewhere else this year.

I just found out that I have a wedding to attend on 24th, so I'll join you lot on the 25th only.
Regarding severity of 4WDing itself, I watched some AULRO YouTube videos and it looks like some serious offroading - do you think there'll be opportunities for beginners (like me) to cut teeth on some relatively tame tracks? Not too keen to break a $100K car...

Hi Steven, the last two years there have been two groups, one for people who want to attempt harder stuff and one not so hard.
I think the videos showed more of the hard stuff cos it is more speccy.
You will learn a lot from the people who go on the weekend and have a great time. Damage is unlikely in the not so hard tracks
Cheers

Thursday night a few of us will be discussing this D3/D4/RRS weekend away, going on the poll, it could be goer, we just need to confirm that we can get the same area at Lake Lyell as last year, also the drives and where to take everyone, as with last year there will be two groups.

If you're interested in what we will be talking about, or just want to meet other members, let us know and we can tell you where and when we will be, it's a pub dinner and will be in the southern area of Sydney, just a nice relaxing social meeting to go over things.

I'm assuming you ment 24/25 Oct Rob, that's good, either is OK for us, so we can pick the date tomorrow night and go from there, 24/25 seems to be OK, going on the dates that have been mentioned.

If I look at the poll that has been running for sometime now there is seven confirmations, at least three of those seven are meant to be organising the trip. That leaves just four actual non organising members as having committed to the trip so far.
On the other side there is twelve maybe's. That's a ratio of three to one maybe's versus confirmed, which is a pretty low confirmation rate even at this early stage compared to previous years.
So how about instead of those who are organising the trip deciding which weekend is best for them why not put up another poll with dates available so the actual members this trip is meant for can have a say about what date best suites the majority of them?
Who knows you may find that if you give the members who this trip is meant for a choice and a voice you may end up getting more committing to the actual trip?
So I propose given that it has now come out that there is multiple dates available at the camp ground why not let the non organising members also have a say through a poll about what date best suites the majority of them Barry?

Hi Steven
To give you a participants perspective from the last two years. Although I am a moderately experienced four wheel driver I choose the easier group because I want to minimize the chances of serious damage or a tow truck back. For me I find the level about right, it is real 4 wheel driving in places not just cruising down dirt tracks. This means that there is not no chance of damage and you need to be prepared that you could get the odd pinstripe from a bush or potentially some tyre and wheel damage. Last time on a very undemanding section a harmless looking stick flipped up behind the rear wheel and dug in which pushed half the back bumper off my car, but this could happen anywhere really, fortunately it all just clipped back into place.
If you are a beginner you might find some of the hills a bit butt clenching at first but that's the fun of it and they don't go anywhere these amazing cars can't easily handle and there are lots of great people who are happy to talk you through it and have gear to help if any trouble.

Just to add to what Andrew has said, if you feel that you're not comfortable about doing anything, then don't, knowone will force you to do anything you don't feel comfortable doing, the whole idea of the weekend is to have a great time with no stress and give people an idea of how good these vehicles are, and how much fun these vehicles provide and meet like minded people.

As Andrew has said, there some great people with a wealth of knowledge to help with anything you want to know, all you have to do is ask.
