This is not the normal "what brand do I buy?" question but is a bit more basic.
What CCA rating would you recommend for a diesel Series 2 Discovery. I've looked through the handbook but can't find it.
I seem to remember the Landie battery is very high (900?) and can't find anything near this. The closest is a Yuasa Overlander with 700.
The original battery is now about 4 1/2 years old and hasn't shown signs it's about to give out but winter is here now and I've got a feeling one cold morning soon it will just die.

Hi Disco123, this is not too scientific but when I have had to replace a battery, I’ve all ways tried to fit the largest battery I could get that fits.
Cheers

I am fairly sure the standard batteries were only about 500-550CCA. Replace it with the biggest, best quality you can fit and afford. Normally I look at 750CCA plus.

does anyone know what the difference is to a marine battery?

i used to use old discarded jaguar batteries in my mazda capella and they were around 900CCA from memory.....

i could crank my engine over for half an hour before it would go flat.... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

thanks....it sounds like they are constructed differently to allow for the vibration of hitting the waves....... are the australian outback road corrugations not that bad that standard batteries get used in 4WDs?

The Disco II takes a Delphi calcium/calcium battery and they are around 600CCA and 110AH.

Remember that a 4WD has a suspension and rubber mounts for the body

So I do not think that 4WD is as severe as boating where the battery is mounted to the hull which bangs into waves continually. obviously neither does the largest battery maker. I have never had a battery fail from plate problems, even in pure desert work in Saudi where the car was airborne often.
I found the radiator tanks broke off first!!!!
