Nice job Phil.

The stock ones bend like a wire clothes hanger :x  .

How much was the track rod and does it come with the swivel pins?

How is the guard attached to the diff?

hey OI,
i paid $280 + freight.
track rod 2x tie rod ends(lh&rh thread)
also comes with 2 clamps for the ends.

if you dont want to relocate the steer damp theres an extra
cost of the hd mounts for it.

the guard mounts the the 2 holes that the steering dampner
and harmonic balancer bolt to. quite simple.

as i dont need either i just removed them.

Thanks Phil,

So the Steering Damper was moved up front and higher Defender like or jettisoned? I've buggered one of those as well  .

The Harmonic Balancer must be like an Appendix. Will you notice a difference?

you will notice a difference when the rubber mount that holds the balancer lets go.....it bounces between the road and the car on its bungy chord just like a wrecking ball..... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

couldnt feel any differance at all. the only thing good for it is that the centre rubber is the same as my vee8 engine mounts.

and yes i did move the steering dampner up high like the defenders.
yet another mod i completed.

let me know if you want to see some pics.

I am looking at fitting a "return to centre damper" so I might as well go the whole hog.

Maxi Drive make a heavy duty tie rod and drag link. (32mmx16mm tube)
If you only change the tie rod, you stand a chance of bending the drag link in future.

Nice job on the guard. Excellent colour. 8)

Snake Racing have the HD track rod and Drag Link for $265 for the pair.

Hey Paul,

Do you have the part number? Webpage makes no mention of LR's

Have you fitted these?

True, but the drag link (the shorter jobby :?: ) is much stronger by virtue of it's shorter effective length. I grabbed the longer one and was told they rarely sell the shorties. Also interestingly the original diff bracket still seems to work, albeit with a wee tad of contact

4th item down on the left hand index.

I don't have them yet, but they're next on my list after the dual batteries.

In the description they describe them as 32mm solid bars. 8O

holycrap 32mm solid!!!! 32/16 hollow is well heavy enough!
it wont bend enough with my guard on, it will break a tie rod end off
first!

i thought about the HD drag link, but its up high enough to be
out of the way, and as already stated, its short and strong enough.

from snake.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>The ultimate in bomb proof steering links

Engineered from 32mm Solid Steel. Strong enough to tackle the toughest of off road terrain even if your steering 44" tyres. Engineered to be tougher than the standard 20mm hollow units.

Land Rover Front Track Rod ............................. $155 inc GST

Land Rover Rear Steering Arm ........................ $155 inc GST

Land Rover Front Track Rod &
Rear Steering Arm .............................................. $265 inc GST

Greasable Tie Rod Ends .............. from - Pair $120 inc GST[/b][/quote]

so thats $385= T rod and steer arm + 2x tie rod ends.
i paid $192 t rod
and $44 per tie rod end.????

Troutbac sales have top prices on tie rod ends. Greasable $95.00 for 3 off delivered to my door. I think.
Cannot remember what i paid for both rods.

Sounds like getting the drag link and track rod for $265 from snake, and then the tie rod ends for $95 from troutbeck would be the way to go. $360 all up.

In my case, the tie rod ends have been recently replaced, so I just need to fork out the $265 for the pair of rods.

make sure you check pricing from

LRA Melb and from Maxi drive. (Maxidrive make them for most suppliers.)

Matt was that each or the pair?

you can make non greasable ones greasable!
just carefully drill and tap the base to 1/8bspt or npt and
screw in a nipple
to stop the swarf going in the tie rod end dip the drill bit
in some greese, it will catch and hold the shavings. do the same with
the tap.
