The last one has not finished yet here! Dams and rivers are almost the lowest I have ever seen, and there is very little feed anywhere. Recent rain has seen crops germinate, but there is little subsoil moisture, and these will be very dependent on further regular rain.

Central Vic is very dry for this time of year and have had less than 1/2 the average rainfall so far. It doesn't bode well.

Not good up this way either. But in reality we have not seen a drought in Australia yet that compares with one that was around in 1770. I remember when I was at primary school and learning about explorers like Cook, Tasman etc, I read that Capt Cook had trouble finding fresh water on the east coast when he was sailing north. Some years ago I had a mate who worked in CRC Reef Research at James Cook Uni. From coral coring on the reef they can establish the size of the wet seasons from the silt deposits from major rivers like the Burdekin. Their records indicate in that period the Burdekin had not flowed for 10 years - that is something we have never seen. Even in the driest years it still flows. Let's hope we don't see a repetition of that one.

Yes it is not good at all up in Queensland either. I own a Droughtmaster stud and this year I am very worried, I have less than half the normal feed on my property. Normally when I open the herd to the hills at the rear within a few weeks I have a good head of feed for later in the year up at the front, this year it didnt grow as it was too dry. I will run out of feed the question is when :(

The drought is so bad around my place that I've had to drain the rainwater tank into the stormwater drain, just so we could have sufficient room for the next rain. They may have to turn on the desal plant sometime in the future.

Don't worry, if we run out of meat or veg we can get it at Woolies' just down the road. Addit: Bugger, its raining again, I'm going to have to flush some tank water down the storm water tonight.

Yeah, we're 415mm above sea level, so drought is not an issue. Down the hill on the flat is a different story.

After a near 10 year drought in Central Vic and a 2 year break with some floods , we are now again having the dry est autumn and early winter for ages ...

My dams are near dry and the rain threatens but does not fall ..
People are now hauling water for there tanks for drinking and we are one month into winter :eek:

Farmers that I do work for are praying for rain to enable the crops to kick off .... but it is not looking good atm ...

Geez we have had some rain up here,and more to come over the weekend.Must be one of the wettest years for a while.But they say a drought is coming.

And on the farm,south west Qld,it has been hosing down.Hundred and twenty- fivemm over easter was excellent.Forty mm two months before was also good.Twenty-fivemm four weeks after Easter was also good.Fortymm three weeks ago was good.

Not just me. The Talbragar remains almost dry, as it has for most of this year - and that means that all the catchment is very short on rainfall as well.

It sounds a bit like Millstream where my farm is. It can be raining big time in Ravenshoe 10km away and not a drop here. This is normally what happens early season, then the storms start to come in from the west and the first few stop about 5km than my farm further west. All very frustrating as we seem to be the dry patch between the two!! I have actually seen the rain in a curtain just past my farm slashing it down and we never got a drop.
When the storms set in though we get the rain, but when you need it to rain badly it can be very frustrating.

OK, Since I have called you out....

No, chem trails are not a fact, they are caused by the exhaust of aircraft condensing at high altitudes.

This is different to "cloud seeding " which is real and is practiced in many parts of the world and more locally by the HEC in Tasmania to increase the rainfall yield on the West coast mountains of Tasmainia, some would say to the detriment of the Launceston area.

Geo engineering ( weather modification) is what they are doing correct and it is what causes the chemtrails , those long non dissipating trails are not jet engine trails .
They are geo engineering trails mate . My mistake was to call them chemtrails which they are to be accurate , but that term yes, is aligned with groups of very weird conspiracy people.

I am not a conspiracy type at all , but the stuff they are spraying over all our heads has quite an effect on what is under them and it is a fact that the scientist agree that they do not really understand the full effect of the stuff they spray , they even admit that the weather changing effects are not understood nor accurate .

It is your prerogative to think the people that make the decision to rain down on us any time they want , all know better than us what they are doing , but I choose to believe that without the full disclosure to us and a study of the long term effects of this stuff in our water and forests and food , that btw they acknowledge that they do know these things at all , to the extent that I believe they should not keep doing it !!

I am way off being stupid or naive Tote...

I work for allot of farmers here that rely on being prepared for drought.
We have planes spraying above every day here trying to avert the return of the 10 year drought that we suffered from that ended only only 2 years ago with bloody floods , now the drought seems to have returned ... :- (

We thought the drought period was past for a while , but atm , we are in another very very dry period, dams empty , water being carted to domestic homes ( I know , I am a local farmer / plumber ) , regardless of the attempts to Geo Engineer the weather above us here ...

Its very dry over here in Williams.
We are way behind in our Winter grading programme.
By now between the 2 graders the first winter grade would be complete. have done 2 or 3 roads.When it rains the overtime will flow in!!!!
Crops look good,they all use knife points over here,they help the crop get the ground moisture.There were early rains which most of the farmers took advantage of.The GMO canola is just starting to send up flowers.

Not my pic. It's one that you posted.
I just drew more attention to it.


In reality, contrails are chemtrails.
Think about it.
You get oxygen and ozone from the atmosphere up there. Mix it with a hydrocarbon you take up there. Spark an exothermic reaction in a type of rotating hiclone and, what do you know, the next minute you're spreading the chemicals CO2 and H2O (or as some people would prefer HHO) around in the upper atmosphere in chemtrails.

Anyways, we're a little off topic.

Sorry to hear so many here are suffering the dry!

As for chemtrails well they spray that crap over our heads here in Churchill also.
At times criss crossing the skies for no apparent reason.
Only one airport around here and there no where near it.
Often you can see where they turn this stuff off and on!
Recently there was a bit of public uproar over it given it was so obvious.
Planes circling around and criss crossing over head at high altitude.
They later claimed the plane (2 by the way but they admit one) was being put in holding pattern because of issues at tulla airport.
Um tulla airport is like 200kms from here lol.
So i think there story was fill for the papers.

Anyway back on topic.
I used to live in Merbein near Mildura so are used to the dry.

So how about instead of dancing about, you try to clearly state what you really believe:

1. Chemtrails are a sinister plot by the Illuminati to change the climate and rot your brains with aluminium.

2. Contrails are an unfortunate side effect of ubiquitous plane travel and can have real effects on the appearance of the sky and also on ground temperatures due to the change of cloud cover.

The latter has some evidence for and against it, the former IMHO is just unsupported scare mongering for the uneducated.

After a few years i concluded there is evidence of this. That simple.
Quite honestly that simple. There is photographic evidence of some planes being used to do it. My wifes dad works in the military and i quiz him on it all the time, however he refuses to answer any of my "stupid" questions.

Before Wikileaks and Snowden a lot of what we conciser normal now was considered just propaganda and tin hat theory. They opened our eyes to the dribble we are forced to intake.
Just because there are websites debunking something means nothing.
We as people need to look deeper into things.
Im not saying im right. FAR FROM IT! Im just your average dont give a **** sort of bloke.
But i dont want governments deciding things without our choice.

11mm in the gauge this morning (no spider). Still light rain. This brings our total for this event to 28mm over three days., which is not going to restore subsoil moisture or put any water in the dams. There has been no significant runoff - river height is unchanged at less than 0.5m at the gauge near here, but was totally dry (well, since it was raining it was wet, but no visible water in the bed of the river) where I crossed it at Ballimore on Sunday.

Our annual rainfall here in the Mallee of NW Victoria is 250-300mm (10-12 inches) per year and so far this year we had 255mm and it's rained again today. Most of our previous years have started with a wet February then had very dry spells through to mid spring.
Been bloody cold here too this last fortnight, with some good frosts to start the day off!

I heard on ABC Radio today that all NSW water storage dams have increased their holding due to good winter rainfall this year, an overall average of 3%.

I grow garlic for various reasons, only a couple of hundred thousand bulbs, but I do have an interest in rainfall for that and other pursuits.

The BOM have a nationwide rainfall update site that has all sorts of options. The most useful to me is the percentage of monthly average that can be viewed nationally or by state, with other options like anomalies or deciles.

Kicks off at the start of each month and gradually accumulates until the end of the month then resets.

Where I am the monthly total was over 100% of the average about 4 days before the end of the July. It rained a bit in the last few days of the month.

On the 2nd of August I looked at the last month's graphic for Vic (July) and the whole map appeared to have been 'standardised' down by 20%.

Got me stuffed how a monthly running total can be altered after the fact.

We ran out of water in the main tank at the house in Maleny at the weekend and had to get a tanker in (13,000 litres for $190).
Maleny is 415 metres above sea level, so if its dry up there, it's dry everywhere. The tanker driver said he is flat out filling orders, as is his mate with another tanker.

They tell me Vic. will be using their desal plant for the first time in anger this summer.

Yep, we're already in the drought - just drive west of the range to see it, there are destocked properties everywhere.
Thanks to climate change, droughts are going to keep getting worse as the desert marches towards the coast, ruining farmers as it spreads.
