My old folding Samsung phone is dying; while it has been handy to carry, it is very awkward to sms on and impossible to use for net browsing.

Looking around, it seems that a 64 or 128gb iphone 6 or iphone 6 "plus" would do just about everything I need and more.

There's hardly any difference between the cost of unlimited call Telstra plans with 6gb of data for these so is there any advantage in having the larger "plus" version ?

Helpful views and info would be appreciated

The "plus" version is big, doesn't fit in a breast pocket. The 6 on its own is a very good size, usable, easy to read/see/use. I'd go the biggest capacity you can. Apps and pics from your adventures will take up heaps of space ;-)

I have the iPhone 6 and my wife has the 6 plus

The 6 plus is a better unit, in my opinion, but as mentioned to you above it is big and does not easily fit in my pockets.

If that is not an issue and the extra money is not an issue go the 6 plus.

Technology wise I don't think there is much different, although I am told the plus has A better camera.

It is the larger screen and feel of the plus that I think is better.

My thanks to both of you, I had been thinking 64 but there is not much difference in price so I'll go with the 128, it should save me taking a lap top on trips :).

Thinking about size, I do use my shirt pocket for the phone a bit so the plain 6 looks like it for me.

I have a 6+ and I regularly put it in my breast pocket. HOWEVER the top of the phone definitely protrudes from the top of the pocket and I always panic that it will fall out when I bend over to pick something up...

I love the 6+ - I read AULRO on it all the time...! :)

To play devil's advocate, have you considered the android offerings?

Might be a comparable product with a cost saving, or even more suitable features for your use.

I recently went thru this same thing. My work phone was an iphone 4 which had a intermittent problem with the antenna, and I was missing far to many calls.
Company said get a new phone which I looked at the 6 & 6+. My problem was I needed to be able to put it in my top pocket so the 6+ was just to big , it fell out the 2 times I tried it in the store, and it would be at the bottom of Darwin Harbour by now if I bought it.

I find the 6 is still a bit big , and have found some of the functions to be harder , especially on the texting side of things, forwarding text's was easy on the 4 , there are a few extra steps on the 6. I find with the bigger screen my fingers are continually pushing the wrong letters, but you can shrink the screen if you need to.
I went for the 64g option as I receive lots of emails and pics of parts etc , so it has heaps of storage available.

I got talked in to buying the life proof case , make sure you get them to show you 1 with a case on the phone and check that you are happy with the volume etc with the case on the phone as the case on mine cut the volume in half. The case itself is great for someone like me who works outside and hop's in and out of trucks, forklifts , coolrooms etc but I can see many not liking that type of case.

So far no complaints.

I have been happy with my iPhone6. Wasnt a fan of the size when I first got it. And I had only come from an iPhone5. From a 4 it will seem huge. And the iPhone 6+ (Or Ipad Micro) will be massive.
My wife went from a Sony Xerpira Z and found the size fine. As it was the same as her previous 2 Android phones.

As for size. Get a minimum of 64gb. Iphones dont have an option for a micro SD card. So what ever size you get is what you are stuck with for the life of the phone.

I have a 128gb and have mud maps 2 loaded which takes up approx 5gb with all the maps. Then through in some music, movies and other apps and I am way over 64gb.
