I finally picked up the New 110 today , and I am really pleased . The dealer was great , gave my a nice Land Rover hat , plus a nice gift wrapped bottle of wine . There was a full tank of fuel as well . The 110 also has the later 110kw upgrade . There is plenty of power throughout the gear range ,At 100ks It was sitting on 2k rpm. I love the exhaust note I know that I'm going to love driving this Land Rover . I couldn't help feeling a bit nostalgic when driving my new car home . It brought me back to the first Land Rover that I brought . Way back in the early 70s . It was a 1969 , 109 2a hard top . It was Marine Blue and White , with a 2.5 BMC Diesel engine . I had to drive It from Chesterfield in Derbyshire , to Bedfordshire over 100miles . I can remember that wonderful feeling . So today all these years later , I had that same feeling . Jim :):):)

I know the feeling. In fact I think I get it almost every day. But I will say that first time you drive it out if the dealer is pretty special.

Congratulations! Pictures please!

Nice touches from the dealer... :)

What is this 110 kw upgrade you are speaking of? AFIK, that has only been done on the Autobiography and the Adventure 90's???

Cheers, Pete.

Well done, my first drive in a Land Rover was on in the RAF on 12 Sqn up in Lossiemouth, don't know which one it was but it was petrol had tanks under the seats and got hammered everyday!

Did you buy the car from Austral in the City?

Can't wait to pick mine up!

Any pictures?

110KW "Upgrade"?.....Who told you that?.......because, I don't think so.
But, if I'm wrong, I'll be straight into ULR & looking for same myself!

Hi pickles , I had heard a question about the last being upgraded , so I asked does this have the 90Kw or the 110 Kw upgrade ? . I was told yes It looks like there doing the 110 kw plus there also put a supplement stating this in the handbook . It says , power output kW [PS] 110 [150 ] at 3250 rpm , Max torque Nm 400 at 2000 rpm . I can only assume this information is correct , I have a td5 that is 90kW and the new truck seems to have more power ! Jim

Hi I brought the 110 from ULR in Melbourne . They have been really good telling me where It is , plus they new delivery dates through there tracking system . They've kept in contact with me at every stage . I will try to post some pictures , I'll have to ask for a bit of help on that one , I will give It a go !!.. Jim :)

Yeah, I've heard about the "supplement" in the manual,....a few guys on Def2 mentioned it, but I'm pretty sure that it's only there for the 150HP upgrade on the celebration models in which instance the upgrade was only available on the 90 models.
So, I'm very doubtful, but if it's true that you have an upgraded engine, I'll be very happy for you.

Hi Tombie , I test drove a 2.4 a few years ago , and to be honest It didn't impress me to much . I didn't like the gearbox , Just felt that there wasn't long enough legs between gears , especially 1st to 2nd , to 3rd . Thinking in town you would forever changing gears . Even tried pulling away in second , the test vehicle didn't like that at all . Also that 110 test landie had bad backlash in the rear diff you could feel It , and hear It . I must say this one feels nice a tight , I like the gearbox , nice short through between gears , pulls good , right through all gears . I had a few Ks on the freeway , so sat at 100 in 6th , I'm thinking this is going to be good to touring truck . My only complaint is , I'm not into rubber , so the smell is a bit strong ,lol..We know that will soon settle down , all in all very happy man !!.. Jim :):)

That rubber smell will go.. I have had mine for nearly 5 months now, and I don't notice the rubber smell anymore.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there has been an error and many new Defender (mine too) sold in Aus has had a addendum page added to the manual which was wrong. It should just been added for the special edition yours like mine is 90kw not 110kw.
Still mine goes great too so not worried it is just numbers :)
Congrats on your new truck I love mine to bits too I never had so much fun driving!!

I contacted the sales guy and he chased up the 110kw paper addendum page with Land Rover UK, they said the page was put in many book by accident when it was supposed to just be in the special edition.
I am happy with my power anyway.

Nope a 110, bought it in Coffs Harbour. Local dealers couldn't get me what I wanted for a "price". Tried several dealers in Melb. Almost bought that red one they had in the yard last month at MLR. The heated seats were a turn on!

Hi , one and all . Picked up the new 110 on Friday arvo , Saturday was miserable Melbourne day raining and cold . Did take the wife for a run not to far , " she doesn't share my enthusiasm " Sunday morning my son phoned , and asked Dad taking the kids up to the snow , do you wont to come ?First thing was check tyre pressure 43psi in rear , drop to 34psi Front ,to 30psi felt better straight away ! So a flask of hot coffee and off I went . We went up a logging track in the Victorian high country , In new 110 , rain drizzle , fog sleet , then Snow , gravel , corrugations , pot holes , sludge , plus steep hills until we got into the Snow , and had lunch . By now I'd done 180 ks . I like the suspension , just soaked It all up . As for the heater ! Wow does that blow hot . I don't know how cold It would have to be to put It on full ? The sound system , kept in touch with the radio station , even in the hills . Got home Sunday evening , by now 300 ks on the clock , the truck needs a wash already ! I'm sorry no photos , my son took some , I don't know how to post them . I will say that I am over the moon , so much better than I thought It would be !!.. Jim :):)

Great to hear you are enjoying the new addition to the family. You will find the wife will come around. Mine has even been seen giving the odd wave including one to Pocket Rocket and Lone Ranger the other day!

Also you may find your heater and AC is like mine. Either blazing hot or artic cold. We use the windows to regulate the internal temp as the dial makes no difference at all.

I have had mine now almost 10 months and am still amazed where my stock Defender will go with no difficulty at all. I have been driving around some pretty badly cut up tracks around Walpole the last few days without the slightest issue. Some really soft and loose sand, massive holes, deep ruts everywhere (and evidence of other drivers'' diffs clearly dragging) and I am putting through it all.

My two kids (7 and 5) are loving it. Catching some fish (only herring but they are loving it) and tonight we saw two owls and a few roos on the drive home.

And like you we are also armed with a thermos. Kids are really liking the holiday special of milo and condensed milk.

Whereabouts are you staying? The picnic area behind Coal Mine Beach caravan park gets a lot of roos hanging around there in the evening. If you can, check out Monastery Landing its a great little spot. Very peaceful.

Hi one and all , I would like to say thank you for your replies . I would like to tell you about something that happened on that first run out in the new 110 . We intended to just keep local . The place where there was snow was closed off by the police due to an accident , So I said to my son , lets try Mt. Strickland ? We turned off the main rd. Behind us was a Holden , I said to my son on the cb we have a car behind us , yes I can see It ! Anyway kept going a so did the Holden Commador . Eventually I pulled over so did they , I went and asked where are you heading ? In the car was a young Indian couple . He said we wont to go to the snow ! We're following you's . I said you really don't wont to be bringing your car up here . He said is this the way to ?????? ??? I asked him again were do you wont xyxyx zxzx I had to say I'm sorry , I can't understand you , It turned out they wanted Mt. Donna Buang . I asked did you turn left or right back at the main rd. ? He said I'm not sure , I saw you and followed you . We put him in the right direction , and hopefully he got the the right place . :):)

Parents have a house on the inlet on Walpole street. One of the last old shacks. Looks average but very comfy inside. Haven't used it in years which is a shame. Having a memory blast coming down here though so maybe I can persuade my wife to get back again.

Funnily enough this is a place where my land rover love really started to get hold of me. We always had them on the farm but when I was a kid my parents sent me down here to some old family friends. Anyway old Harold Wood down here in his old LR station wagon took me to many fishing spots. Taught me let the tyres down, never rush anything, always take the time to dig your self out and seriously 4wd. As an aside he also taught me how to fish off the beach and rocks.

Last couple so days have been going over the same tracks as 30 yrs ago. Shame how badly they are cut up now. Some of these we could get to in a Subaru when I was a kid. No way now due to people not letting down their tyres.

Hi karlz , The heater works really well , It gets very hot , put It on high and blows hard , but is a bit noisy . That's not a complaint , I found even at about 0* I only needed No 1 once It had warmed up . I only wore a T shirt plus flanny shirt . I must admit the cold doesn't bother me to much !!..:)

Love the colour , I have the same colour in a 130. Wondering if you may be able to help me, my 130 comes with black mudguard flares and for some the rear arches don't have any flares. It seems to be standard issue with 130's. I love how the 110's have colour matched mudguards, are the colored guards stiff or soft??, mine are quite flexible and I'm worried if I had them painted they might crack the paint with their flexibility??

Hi the painted guards are flexible , They have always been like that , I have an old 110 county , It is Masai Red 1986 , the guards still have all there paint after 29 years , So I suppose It's down to the Paint Land Rover use . I don't know whether they have to be primed first !!.. Jim
