I have a crack in the windscreen of my D1 from the far DS about 150mm up from the bottom that runs past half way at about the same level ie roughly horizontal. It doesnt interfere with visibility. It is the outer layer that is cracked.

I have an outback trip planned for August Sept.

Would you replace the windscreen now or wait until after the trip?

Do you have windscreen cover?

When does insurance renewal occur? During the trip?

If so, replace now and if it breaks again on the trip, claim another.

NOTE! The insurance company will want to know when and where the screen broke. If you tell them you don't remember when, they won't pay up. Well, AAMI wouldn't for me.

From my experience of windscreen cracks, it will grow when you travel in cold conditions when you have the demister on, as the inside layer tries to expand. You could try to extend the crack to another edge of the screen by pressing your thumb at a point inside at right angles to the crack tip. Or just get a new screen and enjoy a clear view until the next stone gets it.

August isn't very far away... I'd be thinking to get it done when you get back if you are going to do a lot of dirt roads and it's not in your field of vision.

No windscreen cover

I think i will leave it as spudboy suggests.
I Have no doubt it will keep moving.
Is there any risk that the inner layer could also crack given i will have some weight on the roof and will be on plenty of corrugations?
I havent heard of that happening?
