Hi

A guy posted about his defender dash pods on the FB aulro group and i commented that it was a pity he didn't have a P38 one. He came back straight away with a pic of a P38 version.

I agree with one of the other posters that it would match better if it was covered with vinyl or leather

That was quick!

The Australian dash pod from Dept of the Interior is ugly!

Yeah even with a vacuum formed finish instead of the 1970's nightclub vinyl finish the dept of the interior pod is still to big and ugly for me

One day I'll do something with this RRC pod I was given by Bruce Davis.

Well the guy who makes these was asked twice on FB if they could be covered in vinyl or leather and did not reply.

I also emailed him on Ebay and asked the same question and also asked if he could supply them unfinished so I could paint it. Again no reply.

So it looks like a no go unless you are happy with a chunk of carpet on your dash

Well having looked more it seems like the Dept of the Interior one in the vacuum formed finish is the only real option for a dash pod. The Mud Pod looks too shallow for a UHF radio and the engine watchdog

I am going to call them tomorrow and see what the options are

What are you like with fibreglass?

I have the remains of an old P38A dash top from which I saved the binnacle eyebrow just so I could make a mould for a dash pod that would match. I'll see if I can cut it and sit it on the dash for a visual check.

Both my UHF CB and my UHF (470MHz/70cm) ham radio have detachable control units so have very little depth. The main body is mounted out of the way. In the case of the UHF, it is mounted in the rear compartment.

Ok with fibreglass but not very thrilled about using it !

I was thinking about the detachable control units. an getting a 470Mhz UHF radio as well

I'll let you know the outcome of my call with the dept of the interior

I thought about using this old binnacle to make a mould for a fibreglass pod:

Yes, but I'm cheap. I won't pay what the Dept of the Interior want for their dashpod. If I did make a mould, I'm sure there would be a market for pods.

I used to make fibreglass model race boats (between 900mm-1.2 metres long) and model helicopter fuselages so I'm no stranger to fibreglass (and plaster) moulds.

It wasn't from your dash top. It came from mine when I replaced my dash a few years back.

Well I decided on the Dept of the Interior one and paid extra for the vacuum formed finish in black. I think it turned out pretty well !

I have mounted my LPG switch, watchdog, low coolant alarm and a few Carling switches in it. The Prodigy P3 brake controller sits on top

That is one weird looking cluster of "gauges".
The French are always trying to be different.
