OK
Mark (Camel_landy) has a 2nd tank under the drivers seat. It like a Series Tank.
Will a Series tank fit a Defender if you remove the tool box that is there??

And if so what model do i need to get??
Series 1 2 or 3

They were a customer option so maybe have a look in the parts list and you might be able to cross reference the parts.

They do work well, when you select the other tanks it changes the fuel gauge etc.

On the LRE forum there is a lad named Streaky who runs a 130 out in Dubai who has done the mod, it might be worth contacting him to see what he used.

Steve
I've just finished installing the same tankes into my 90, I have a original 90 tank on the drivers side and a modded 110 one on the passenger side.
They are way different from the series tanks, as I had twin tanks in my S11a which I had sitting in my shed after I dismantled it, they wern't really a viable option. Buuuuut if you go to the american D90 websitehttp://www.d-90.com/mod/gas.html there is a article in there of a bloke that put a series tank into his D90, from memory it worked out to be a nightmare an he wished he'd just gone with the factory defender tank.
I've got all the part no's for the 110 underseat tank if you want.

All 90's in the Uk up to the TD5 engine one had tanks under the front drivers seat. You only have the TD5 90's here so no. Apart from persoanal imported earler ones ( like the wifes 300 TDi 90)

I'm watching this thread with interest as have been looking under the ute and trying to work out a cheap way of adding extra fuel capacity.

how much fuel do you suppose the chassis rails will hold?

Why not look at off the shelf sill tanks?

Only problem i have with them is the price tag

I will be cutting / modifying series tanks to gain more clearance / capacity for the Hybrid.

If you are looking for a D90 pre TD5 tank for under the drivers seat then LR part number ESR2242 is prob what your looking for.

This is 12 gallon (60 litres?) tank and you can get them from Karcraft for about $450.

You will then need all the plumbing / transfer pumps / fuel level senders etc etc

Larns,

You have to go into the members galleries (top one with S2 mil landy)

Once in there is a dialogue box in the top rh corner with <admin options>

Open it and click on <new nested album> your album will be created and you can then add pics via the dialogue box <add photos> (use the FORM method of adding photos)

Very 8) Larns.

So the 110's did have an option of a underseat tank then?

What capacity does that give you?

Do they hang down past the chassis rails or sills?

Thanks,

Dave.

To answer a few Q'- Yes they do hang down below the sills
- Pretty sure they also hang below the chassis by
coulpa inches as we'll
-think they were a uk thing as I've only seen the
rare 110 kickin round with one.
- they hold 68Ltrs.
My 110 tank hold less than that due to having to cut a section out to fit around the rear link mounting piont, but I'm hopin to make that up with the extended filler tube volumn. I'm fabricating a filler like the landcruisers with the duel tank filler at the one cap.
The original D90 under seat tank has a capacity of 53Ltrs from memory, due to the factory cut out to fit in.

Part no. for the 110 tank and ass.

I didn't include any Pt NO. for fastners as I bought my own.

Hope you dont mind me posting the info.

I am selling an under seat 110 fuel tank if anyone is interested. Note the 4 door wagon and 2 door wagon/utes have different under seat tanks. It is in good condition located in Brisbane.

I was looking at the Les Richmond Auto (Thomastown, Vic) site tonight and noticed he has both sill tanks and replacement main tanks for Defenders.

If anyone is interested I am selling a driver side 110 fuel tank. It is in good condition and located in Brisbane. Note the sill tanks for the 2 door 110 and 4 door 110 are different. I see from the photo that larns has a 2 door 110. You can fit a slightly bigger tank to the two door as there is no foot well (floor) for rear passengers.

At work (RAAF) we have the 110's with a similar set-up. They are a 2 door though. You can get fuel tanks that sit under both front seats, both the drivers and the passengers. One is 50 litres, the other 60 litres. They are readily available from Land Rover Australia, Brithish Motor Imports etc.

On top of that you have the option for a main tank behinf the rear axle. If custom set-up yourself, you could conceivably have available nearly 200 litres of diesel under your truck. Coupled with the Tdi, that gives a very impressive range.

The batteries live behind the seats. You can mount them in battery boxes, or for the 2 door, you can do similar to the military and cut into the side and make a hinged door with a sliding bracket inside.

Cheers
