Difference between MY11 and MY15 D4

I am contemplating trading my MY2011 D4 for a new one. Can anyone tell me of any differences between the MY11 and the MY15 please? My only tiny grumble with the MY11 is that there is quite a lot of low frequency noise, a sort of 'rumble' that is barely audible but leads to a bit of tinnitus. It would be nice if the latest D4 didn't do that.

Apart from the cosmetic facelift type stuff ....

Gearbox - 8 speed. Very smooth.

Engine - 3L (unless you already have this in your MY11?)

Wheels - no factory 18"

Terrain Response - based on Gordon's feedback, significant improvements to TR modes (software/operational improvements) evolving from MY10 up to now

Gear select - rotary knob. Some people don't like it. I think it's excellent.

Not sure about the noise. I certainly don't notice anything like that in my MY14. Sounds like a tyre noise.

My MY2013 LR4 HSE LUX doesn't have the noise issue so far-knock on wood. I'm still at 8k miles though.

The MY2015 entertainment system has apps now and a smartphone app that can interact with the built-in vehicle applications. The navigation is updated. Unless you've paid for nav updates you should find considerably more content & POIs and there's supposedly a sizable boost in responsiveness over MY11. I believe MY11 navigation has to be updated by a dealer and in MY12 or 13 it switched to downloadable USB images you can buy from the website. Still pretty steep in price for the quality IMO. MY14 adds on the road collision detection too I think. That's an important safety feature some people are looking for in this market segment. Other high end SUVs have already been implementing apps, collision sensors and other new tech stuff for awhile now.

Engine also has the shutdown at stop feature that many new autos have been including. Here in the US MY14 phased moved to a V6 premium unleaded version with a bunch of optimizations that bumped up mileage in the petrol version. Performance is supposed to be close to prior models but there are different options including a V6 turbo. The 2015 brochure has all the specs in a chart for easy visible comparisons. I know many of you overseas get access to the diesel versions and I have only seen the US & Canadian marketing info for 2015.

I have heard of issues with the gearshift knob. MY14 is the first year with major changes to the LR4 after steady refining that ended for the engine in MY13. So there may be a few bugs that haven't been found or worked out yet. I have learned to hate bleeding/cutting edge since it makes you the test case. There are also plans/rumors (Im sure folks around here know better than me) of a 2016 major design overhaul. That could possibly leave only 2 years with that configuration which could affect aftermarket product availability.

Another bonus here in the US is when you buy a new or used LR and you register on the Rover website you get a free 2 hour certificate to the Land Rover Experience offroad driving school which is worth $4-500. I'm not sure about the limits on how old your vehicle can be if it's not new. That program was in effect in December and didn't appear to be a limited offer.

Thanks gents for the replies. The 19" wheels could be a deal breaker - I would expect them to be noisier with a lower profile quite apart from their sand performance.

Besides, MLR advise me that it is company policy not to supply the E-diff, a most peculiar and surprising attitude. That alone could convince me to stick with my current car.

No noise that you describe in my MY14.
Wheels are a problem,18" wheels available from Gordon(Green Oval Experience),they are the only 18" available to fit withoud modifications.Perhaps one could order the vehicle with no wheels and supply your own set.
RE the diff,that cant be correct,if you want one you should be able to order one.They are factory fitted,so could mean your dealer doesnt order dealer stock with them fitted.I couldnt get one when I bought mine,same reason no dealer stock.

Yes, I think you are right Andrew, the 'sales lady' was probably more interested in selling what she had on the floor for immediate sales commission than she was in giving a customer what they wanted. I vote with my feet....

Thanks for your comment on noise - I will take a test ride in a MY15 and see what the difference is like.
