Hello all. It's time for me to draw on your collective knowledge.

Despite hours of Googling and research in books, I can not find a definitive answer in my quest for determining the correct tail light for my '57 109. The originals are still in place, but way too aged and faded to ever be used on the road again. An image can be seen at http://grouseguitars.com.au/landrover/smallRDSC_5547.jpg (the rest of the car is at 1957 Land Rover 109 (http://grouseguitars.com.au/landrover))

Can anyone guide me to the correct make and model umber of the tail light lens?

Cheers!

You should be able to find something here under Books and Info ------ Lucas parts Cat. 1957. Try this link Land Rover Series Resources (http://www.landroverseries.org/books-info.htm)

I think they were Della red beacons. Butlers made a similar lamp which Cradock's in England used to stock them.

I also have just picked up a 57 109, my conclusion are that it would be pork pie, that are hard to source (black body with chrome ring).

The lamps in your picture are the same as the LWB Series II so not sure when they changed from Pork Pies (you'd need a bank loan to buy NOS Pork Pies).

My Series IIa has the same lights, I think they're Wipac. I'll have to check the lenses on mine although they have faded like yours.

Edit: just found this which suggests IIa from '64 http://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/series/series-2/parts/electrical/lights-lenses-and-bulbs/541522-wipac-rear-lamp-series-2a-from-1964.html
Maybe yours had Pork Pies and they were swapped out at some point.

Neil,

l/r parts manual (1954-1958) for series 1 (released at the time)
page 174-177

shows a D light (which, luckily are still made and sold by a bloke in blackwood SA, VINTAGE BULBS)

alternatively, the dealers manual for same time lists two lights,
it lists "metal body light" and "plastic body light"

metal body shown is a pork pie (sell your kids your house and your kidney)
plastic body shown is yours, (a lucas light but I reckon the wipac will be the same)

so the news is good, the plastic one is the original I reckon and not 400pounds to replace!! (each)

Been wondering if LR will make those Pork Pies, part of the new idea of supplying old parts.

My brothers SWB '56 has them,i also know where there are two never used, brand new collecting dust in a box.And no they are not for sale.:)

Problem is as soon as you start to manufacture the market price drops as supply meets demand. A limited period to cover the development & tooling costs.....
I'm guessing the glass would be the most difficult part, the rest would require a press tool and some metal spinning knowledge.

You may be able to use cut n polish to clean them up, I'm fairly certain there's,a dye you can get as well.....
