I have purchased a Pioneer MVH-X375BT
http://www.pioneer.com.au/images/products/caraudio/pioneer/mvh-x375bt_gs_blue_front_a1_b2_medium.jpg
which i want to fit to my Tdi Defender.

The terribly messy wiring in that general region currently looks like this:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2015/07/399.jpg (http://s1326.photobucket.com/user/Landyvlad375/media/AULRO%201/wires%201_zpsbrhqjfss.jpg.html)

specifically I believe these are the relevant plugs

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2015/07/406.jpg (http://s1326.photobucket.com/user/Landyvlad375/media/AULRO%201/wires2_zpsk0qqqkq0.jpg.html)

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2015/07/407.jpg (http://s1326.photobucket.com/user/Landyvlad375/media/AULRO%201/wires3_zpswm0mux73.jpg.html)

(judging from the way that white plug is wired I assume that's the speaker wires - but I can't be sure).

Now the head unit is a modern one with a single smaller plug, as you can see on the rear image here:
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2015/07/408.jpg

So I presume there are 2 options.

1. Assume that the current (no pun) wiring is correct and purchase an ISO adapter harness to suit, eg:
Pioneer ISO Wiring Harness MVH 155UI MVH 355BT MVH X175UI MVH X375BT MVHX375BT | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PIONEER-ISO-WIRING-HARNESS-MVH-155UI-MVH-355BT-MVH-X175UI-MVH-X375BT-MVHX375BT-/271668615240?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3f40b61848)

(I do have te vehciule/ISO portion of a harness I believe, just need the ISO - head unit one.

or

2. Cut the god awful wiring that is there are rewire it to the supplied harness which came in the box with the unit.

Option 2 Pro: MUCH cleaner with less useless crap wiring floating about everywhere.
Con: Need wiring diagram for supplied harness.
Con: Also need to know how to work out what wires in the vehicle (first pics) are what, to match them up.

I THINK option 2 would be better in the long run BUT any and all advice would be welcomed.

Thanks

quickest and easiest is an iso to pioneer adaptor probably sub $30

I found some installation 'instructions'

I can't see, however, how the L and R REAR speakers would hook up - there seems to be wires only for 1 lot of rear?

Wire it up from your existing harness onto the one supplied. Isn't that hard to do and can be done in 5 minutes. The wiring diagram on the new one says that wife's 11+12 are rear left, wires 13+14 are the rear right.

Where abouts are you located?

Thanks for that interpretation.
Brisbane mate. Northside.

I did buy an ISO adapter but I think that's going to be a nightmare in itself. And messy.
Anyway I'll give that a go and if I'm not happy with the result, will rewire it as you say.

Tips for joining smaller and larger gauge wires together?

Meanwhile (as per my other thread in this forum) there's a pile of horrible wiring I need to sort out.....

That linked plug should be all you need to get the radio to work, plug and play:)

My interpretation is 10 & 11 are rear left and 12 & 13 are rear right.

Cheers, Mick.

Buy this: APP8PIO5 Pioneer to iso harness 14 pin | Aerpro (http://aerpro.com/app8pio5)

from here: Harness Iso To Pioneer App8Pi05 - Supercheap Auto Australia (http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Harness-Iso-To-Pioneer-App8Pi05.aspx?pid=305229#Recommendations)

for $16.29

Plug the ends on the left into the factory loom...

Plug the end on the right into the stereo...

Plug antenna in...

DONE....

Now how can that be difficult or messy?

Haha, yeah there arent even 13+14 wires. Working off a mobile, so couldn't see the picture and type at the same time.

My bad, and I stand corrected.

relevant post/s from related wiring thread:

Radio should be two plugs and your adaptor loom should fit them both.
Big grey plug.....
Purple-battery constant(I'll call it 12 V from now)-dash fuse box, f2.
White/orange-accessory-12 V-dash fuse box, f7.
(Test this wire by turning the ignition key, off-0 V, acc-12 V, ign-12 V)
Black wire is earth, test with the black probe in it and the red to the above purple, should see 12 V.
White plug...
(You will get no voltage as driven from the radio.)
Black/brown-RH speaker.
Black/white- RH speaker.
Brown/black LH speaker.
White/black LH speaker.

and

You may want to add a dash back light wire to your radio when installing.
It usually dims the back lighting for night driving.
I could only see 3 wires in the pictures for the main plug.
It also looks like it's only got one speaker in the other plug.

Your radio looks very similar to a Kenwood unit I installed into a truck tonight.
The power plug on the rear looks the same also.
I had to do it the hard way with the soldering iron as no ISO plug was supplied:(
I try where ever possible to leave the vehicle wire as standard so it's easy to work on but it's not always possible.

There was no wire for the parkers and I thought of this thread.
I couldn't see one listed in your fitting sheet(post 3) so it may not be needed.
The Kenwood has a selectable back light option if required.

All the Sony units I've fitted needed the park lamp trigger wire as they automatically dull when the park lamps are on at night.
