:):)Hi all, I have been told previously that my Landrover does not have an ECU so I cannot plug in an ELM327 interface to read fault codes etc. If this is so, then why does The Landrover 1998 D1 with ABS have an interface plug under the dash on the RH side?:D:D

Can anyone explain this to me? Thank you and have beaut day - Gerry (wedgetail37):):)

I'm assuming its a 300TDi. The body wiring loom in your model is common to both the petrol and diesel models, the engine loom just plugs into it with two multi plugs behind a large grommet in the firewall. Random not connected plugs are a fact of life with these things.:)

When I had a D1 V8 and took it to a Land Rover service and also an independent Land Rover mechanic, they took the drivers side foot kick panel off and connected the diagnostics to a plug there. Not the common OBD11 plug under the dash.
No familiar with the TDi.

I believe the NAS versions had an OBD11 connector.

Perhaps it is that Land rover has Standard looms and fits them to every vehicle on production and uses or deletes connections due to vehicle spec??

Ok, unless your disco is an import with EDC ( electronically controlled ) there is no ECU, there are lots of spare plugs and sockets to cover all the options available at the time.
