G'day Guys,
Bit of an introduction and call for advice, I picked up a 1989 FFR a few months back from Sydney (I live in Canberra) and drove it on and off road without hassles. I decided to do a trip around Tassie with my partner in it, and we set off last month on our 3700km round trip. After stopping in Melbourne I faced the issue of the transfer case slipping from high range to Neutral when accelerating in 1st and 2nd (doesn't happen in 3rd and 4th).
The only time this did not happen was when I was holding the selector rearward while my partner changed gears for me (not ideal on the start of a trip :p).
As a temporary fix I zip tied the seletor to the rear using the seat frame as an anchor, this served us for the remainder of the trip with no major issues (she still tries to jump out when driving up 25-30 degree slopes in 1st without momentum, but not a show stopper. Apart from the transfer case it served us excellently and I was extremely happy with the way that it performed, however now that I am back I would love to get it back to full capability again.
The gearbox was reconditioned 2 years ago by the army, as was the clutch, however the transfer case is unchanged from 1989 (to the best of my knowledge). Has anyone heard of a similar case before or have any solutions ?
I have not looked into sourcing a new transfer case but if anyone has any recommendations it would be much appreciated.
Cheers
