265/75's on Rangie

Hi just lifted the rangie 2" ( actually 3" at rear since it was sagging bad), now i really want some rubber to fill those guards. I have seen a few rangies with 265/75-16 on and they look awesome. They measure 31.6 inches overall and is a great range of tyres to choose from.
But will they rub? I know they probly will on the radius arms at lock, but what about the body work?

I've got 31x10.5x15 on my 79.
That equates to 265/75/15.

I have flares, and the guards have been chopped, but no lift (well not that I can notice).
They don't foul the bodywork, and my guess, with 2-3" lift, they won't foul either.
Yes the steering lock has to be adjusted, but you get used to to doing 17 point turns in car parks.

A 2 door has more room in the rear guards than a 4 door.
The biggest tyres that will not hit are 245.75x16. and they hit on extreme bumps.
If you do not use all the suspension travel you will be OK. If you DO use all the suspension travel on roughtracks, you will hit,
1 the bolt that sticks out at 12 oclock inside the guard
2 the guard flange where the door closes onto
3 maybe at the entire rear portion of the rear arch (235s hit there)
If you cut these away you will still hit at the bumpstop but not too bad.
I have not seen a Rangie with 265 .75 , but am basing on my experience with 245.75 and friends with 235.85
If anything you will hit in more places such as the top spring mount as Rangies have narrow arches.
If you put a 1inch body lift under then you should not hit anywhere.

i run 235 x 85 xR16 with a 2" spring lift and a 35mm spacer under the bottom spring mount and have no probs at all

265's work well on Rangies. A mate has 265's on with 2+2 body/spring combo and no guard cutting required.

I run 235/85R16 Goodyear MT/R's and find the narrower tyre good in many applicatons. Plus they are a few mm taller is another reason why I went that way, they fit to the older 'Rosstyle' Rangie 16x6 steelies which are cheap as chips because no bugger really wants them :wink:

Probably go something a bit more aggressive next time for off-road 'play' tyres. The MT/R's work well as a good all-rounder for me but now I can afford 2 sets odf tyres I would rather a road tyre for general day-today work and an aggressive off-rpad tyre for the real stuff.

I don't know if it helps, but as mentioned previously my 2 door has 31x10.5x15 (265/75/15).

How about (to be specific):

245.75.R16 GoodYear Wrangler MTR's? (approx. 31" height)

or would you still go for:

235.85.R16 BFG MT's (aapprox. 32")

Price difference here is about 35 US$ per tire. (BFG more expensive)

Assuming also that my RRC 2 door has HD Springs giving me about additional 2".

Hey mate

I run 265/75/16 AT's on my 1990 rangy and don't scrub at all. But I wouldn't go any wider as they miss the guards by about 1cm. All I have is a 2 inch spring lift and the tyres are fitted to the CSA Highlander 8 inch rims which have the right offset. Just adjust the steering stops a little so doesn't scrub on the arm.

I use ROSTYLE rims also, is this to narrowfor this tyre?

Also are they to "loud lookin" for a stock looking RRC?

Or am i better off with 235.85.16 BFG's?

i bit the bullet today and put ona set of 265/75-16 BFG M/T. Got them second hand from a tyre dealer for $70 each, still got about 70% tread on them! Bargin!!! On road they felt really skittish untill i got home and cheched the preasure, 45psi all round!!! No wonder, i usually run 30 in front and 34 in rear. That should soften things up a bit. Will have to ajust steering stops as on full lock they rub. Carnt wait to get off road now.
