So, hopefully the Ashcroft LT230 will arrive before the weekend. A couple of fellow AULRO members have offered their time/knowledge/extra hands etc to help me do the job on Saturday.

Does anyone have any advice regarding any other parts I should source, and any tips for a successful transplant? I'm lead to believe the job is made much easier if I get some guide studs, but not sure where to find them.

If anyone else has the time/energy/interest to assist/spectate/commentate/heckle, let me know :D

You make the guides by buying long bolts, cut the heads and hacksaw slotting the end so you can unscrew them after.

Also double check the length so that;

a) you clear the g/box input shaft before the t/case falls off the studs,

b) they aren't too long that you can't get the t/case off or onto them before it fouls the body work.

I'd leave the handbrake drum off when installing too, it drops a lot of weight and makes things much easier to manhandle, in that no one is tempted to grab the drum and it rotates on them !

Oh, and make sure you have Loctite handy. Apart from stopping bolts from unexpectedly dropping out in use, you need it to seal a couple of the holes as they aren't blind !

Guide studs are easy. Get two standard M10 metric bolts from somewhere around 150mm long and cut the heads off. Taper the cut end a bit and make a slot across it to fit a flat screw driver. They should then be exactly right to guide the box far enough back so the gearbox splines don't destroy the new oil seal.

bolt count and position
get the right tool or a skinny 3/8th 14mm socket and a wobble head extension bar
