This is a bit embarrassing, but I have just realized that you can fold both side mirrors in when your off roading when the scrub starts closing in, as your moving!!!!

These vehicles just keep surprising me. now where is that D4 manual. :p

By the way, for the slow learners like me! You press both directional buttons down at the same time.

Cheers
Scott.

It is in the manual, but doesn't work for me, what have I missed?

Obvious question first, do you have power folding mirrors?

Can you have them fold automatically when you lock the vehicle?

Don't know because I cannot fold them! According to my Australian owners manual, they should fold.

Hi.

If you register with Topix if you haven't already done so and login, input your VIN and the subsequent screen shows a few details. Above them to the right opposite the Vehicle Features heading (middle of screen) is print and more details icons. Either one will bring up a list of what your car has or not installed. I have the folding mirrors as you described and the only line I could see that relates is "DU P/HEATED/MEMORY FOLD BACK". If you don't have that you probably don't have what you're looking for.

TOPix only shows DUAL POWER/HEATED MIRRORS. Can I fold them back manually? Don't want to break anything.

Hi.

Occasionally my mirrors would make a groaning sound and shudder a bit. I talked to the dealer and was told to put vaseline into the pivot area after pushing the mirror manually backwards towards the door and then forwards and backwards about 30 times to lubricate the joint. What I'm saying is that if you push the mirror towards the door it will fold in fairly easily if it can. There will be a bit of resistance becasue you're pushing past a bump stop. However be careful in case it can't fold back. Can't say definitely that you can in fact fold them back but I'd be surprised if you can't.

Regards,
Martin

Nicky, do they fold back when you lock the car? If not, then they will not fold back at all sorry :(

That's a good point. If they fold back when you turn off the car they will no doubt be able to be folded back manually. Even if they don't it may still be possible. One of my previous cars did exactly that. No auto fold back but you could still manually fold them back.

should be able to still manually fold them back (for transporting and scrub), but how without breaking something, they are very "solid"

If you have the less powerful diesel 3 litre motor, the mirrors will not fold back electrically.

Both the mirrors and the more powerful diesel motor were packaged together in the SD model.

The saving in space when folded back is very minimal however.

Also, having them fold back is a setting - its possible that an SD when locked will have its mirrors not fold back ... its a setting after all.

Perhaps we should not have them fold back - that way we'd save the motors?!!!

When I unlock my vehicle, I only have the drivers door unlock - because that way the other three door locks aren't being actuated. They may last longer that way!!!

OK, pushed them back, not much space saved.

I've only used it when backing into a car space in an underground parking station when next to a column to get as close as possible to the left side of the car to give myself more room.

It's reassuring to look back at the vehicle and see its ears are folded back.
I know it's locked.

I was just happy about knowing it was possible to fold them back when you wanted, I didn't expect this post to last so long!
But I guess that's land Rover owners for you, get exited over nothing. Love it!

I'm embarrassed to say I folded my mirrors on the Nullabor. I wanted to save fuel.

Not true, my MY'14 TDV6 has power fold mirrors, but you are correct in saying its a setting.

Or they all seize in position and/or become lazy and sluggish in operation....

For the OP...

Not all vehicles had it, and if you cant get it to work pressing both buttons - then you dont have it....

The handbook is universal, and states somewhere up the front "not all options may apply"

Not really Scott, it's bit of a long story but mine ended being built with the surround cameras, the reverse & side detection sensors, blind spot monitoring and wade sensors and as a result of all that it also got the power fold mirrors, none of which I ordered, so that's how I got them.

I had a new SE as a loan car the other day, couldnt see anything my pov pack(with dealer ordered extras) had as an extra, didnt pay attention to the mirrors, may have been the only difference.

Well apart from the more powerful motor, electric seats and the fold down seat armrests.

And that is what, some $15k more or thereabouts depending on what deal you can do, a lot of money for essentially the motor.

No armrests in this one,it had the TD motor too.
The dealer key tag had the colour/rego and said it was an SE.I think it was a 2015 version of mine with the same dealer pack!!!!

No, because of other people who get in and out of the car. At that time the locks are actuated.

We have a Mercedes B class, and its passenger door actuator failed. Not cheap to fix either ... who knows how good the LR ones are ... I can't see the benefit of them opening and shutting more than they have to.
