So, is Moking a wealth hazard? ?

Cheers

Its an 1380cc A series bottom end, limited slip four pin diff, lightened and balanced,
VW intercooler, 911 injectors, uprated Cooper S drive shafts, BMW K1100 motorbike cylinder head.
The turbo will be "bagged" the first one did just under 200bhp atw, this with some modifications should easily hit the 220bhp mark, should be fun.
You should see HSV and FPV drivers faces at the lights, great up until the aerodynamics kick in!

Isn't everything us blokes enjoy!
I have a spread sheet on everything I have bought, I try and not look at it too often! Other than restoring motorbikes I haven't got any other hobby!

Couple of pictures of the engine.

Very nice, my first car was a Mini Moke, my last is the Defender, nothing so radical in the student days.

What seats are you going for,

I would love a Moke. We had one as a kid. I can't see the ex- wife being happy with me putting the kids in it. I had to sell the Defender because of this. As a kid we didn't even have seats in the back. How times have changed. In the military in helos we call this OCL or operational contingency loading and the Generals never sign off on this anymore. The soldiers used to love hanging their feet out the side.

I reckon the F6 would still give it a touch up.

I had a heap of fun in my moke.

Seen this?; Project Sixty Four - Bonneville Land Speed Record Mini Cooper S ? A 1964 Mini Cooper S from New Zealand that set a Bonneville Land Speed Record in 2012 and is going back in 2015 (http://project64mini.com)

These are the seats, the rears are all certified and blue plated.
The fronts have been made to give at much support as possible but to also look as stock as possible, no point giving any clues to people!

They have turned out really nice and I'm happy with them.

I reckon the F6 would still give it a touch up.

570 kg max, 220 hp, if you got the traction it would be interesting up to a 100 kp[h, now on a hill climb ......... the F6 or any RWD wouldn't do the first corner.

I remember when Mokes were a bit more common that there was fuel cap sharing system.
Someone lost a fuel cap and found it on someones elses Moke and so on.
I also remember as a kid riding in the back being asked to look inside the fuel tank to see how much petrol was left with the fuel guage showing empty.
I would say to mum, about a teaspoon full left in the bottom of the tank.
And that would be enough to get us up to end of the street to get the Sunday paper and back home.
They handle like if they are on rails.
When I was a bit older at tech my so called mates would pick up my Moke and move it to another spot in the car park,or sometimes lean it up against a light post with the front nose down and the rear end up in the air.
Do you think the bastards to show themselves to get it down!!!!!
Off road driving no problem, sit a mate on each mud guard to give the front end traction and no problem..........or drive up in reverse.
The fun we had.

Great looking Moke IsVicThere. I miss mine which I built with help from my young daughter, & even younger son back in 1990/91. Lots of problems with Qld transport as it had a Stainless Steel body, which necessitated a separate steel chassis linking the subframes which made it weigh a ton & reduced ground clearance to about 5 inches. Went well with a 1275 Copper S donk though. A couple of pics:

That's an export moke isn't it?
Worth a few bob if it is, very nice.
Does it have the fuel filler on the side rather than the top?

The fuel filler is in the rear as it has a rear tank.
They were made for export to the American market but it didn't eventuate.
Yep, a rare thing.

That's right Mick I stand corrected, I think some of them managed to get to the Bahamas or somewhere like that, just before assembly ended in Australia and started in Portugal.

The Australian assembled Mokes were exported to over 80 different countries.
The '72 "export@ Moke wasn't. A few may have ventured overseas but not as many as the other types.
'69 and '71 model Mokes being loaded into containers.

Yes it is an "export" model, built March 1972. I recall there were 500 built for an order in the Cayman Islands which fell through, and the cars were released into the Australian market.

It differs from a "normal" Moke with a rear fuel tank (in the middle of the rear subframe) with the filler out of the rear panel. The fuel tank is from a Triumph Herald if I remember correctly. Also the side lights in the guards. I understand they were the only mini model ever with a 1275 engine and drum brakes.

This one was my first car, bought in around 1988, before I had my license. It cost $675. I used it for a few years but it was not suitable for commuting to Uni in Sydney. It burnt a valve and had an exchange engine installed and was reconditioned end to end. It was never used after that so has been parked in the farm shed for the last 25 years. It is being resurrected now.

I don't know whether to keep it or sell it to fund a Perentie or similar project??:(:(:(:(:(

Chris

KEEP IT CHRIS!!!!
You still own your first car, wish I did.My Bro still has his.
Mine was a 1972 ZF Fairlane in Kelly Green. It had all the GT running gear,I bought it unliscenced from a caryard for $750 back when they had to put a warranty on anything over $750.It was a great car,I did sell it at quite a profit, nothing like it would be worth today.
Keep that moke, they are great cars, and you are in a special club,"That was my first car".
ENJOY
Andrew

That's it the Cayman Islands, I was close wasn't I!

I'd keep it mate, that's a rare car as you know and you can still get most of the parts. There's a gent of a bloke I use up here in Brisbane called Matt Read, he's probably got the Worlds largest mini parts stock!

I've got my daily drive up for sale at the moment so I can buy a Perentie!
