Hi all
Still finding my way around the new 98 tdi disco-a tailshaft question. I notice that the rear tailshaft doesnt have a normal uni on it - it has a rubber coupling - now are these up to the job? Should I carry a spare rubber bit? Car has done 100k. :?
Also noticed a small leak from bottom of PS pump-is this a common leak with aan easy fix? It seems to be coming from a bolt (about10mm?) in the base and perhaps also slightly from the brass hose fitting but not sure.

thanks

The rubber "doughnut" on mine has done 150,000 km. The last 40,000km with a two inch spring lift which increases the angle of dangle of the driveshaft and imparts more strain. So far so good.

Inspect it regularly for cracks in the rubber particularly around the bolts.

The Alfa 75 had these and the one next to the exhaust used to crumble at about 40,000 km 8O

If you're worried about losing the donut out in the bush - remember you can unbolt the rear tailshaft, lock the CDL and drive home in 2wd no worries. You even have use of the handbrake. As to that PS leak - if the hose clamp on the low pressure hose isn't tight ( If it is - tighten it up a little and problem solved) it might be that the low pressure hose is had it, and either cut the end off and start again or buy some more from Pirtek or the like. It's not expensive.
