I'm a big fan of the tv series and original film.
I'm not so sure about the new film though. I'll watch it , not least out of curiosity , but also as I'd like to see how Michael Gambon approaches the part of Pvt. Godfrey!
What is going on with the trailer though ? " Its 1944 and Britain's on the brink of defeat" ?
I thought they were on the brink of victory in 1944.I know you have to suspend belief a bit with the movies but , come on.

film remakes often make a mess of the original.
Look at Mission Impossible.....starring a pipsqueak who has to wear platform shoes.
I didn't know of the Dads Army remake until now.

Quite a few good actors in the cast, Gambon playing Godfrey for example should be a hoot!
It will be less accurate than the original (eg. 1940-42 were the dark days ) but I'm looking forward to good entertainment and lots of laughs.
I really enjoyed the originals !
A lot of people are not aware that there was a "sort of" equivalent force raised here - the VDC, and no, despite what some people think, I wasn't old enough to join it :D

I won't make a pre-judgement, except to say that it will be hard to toss the original.

My father lost an eye as a child so couldn't join any of the services nor the VDc. He was, however, sent to Darwin after the bombings as part of the Civil Constructional Corp. I'd like to find out what my sisters did with his photo albums containing a lot of Darwin pics. I'll ask next week at his 95th birthday get-together. They may be of interest to the AWM or Darwin council.

Love the austerity suit :D
The bloke wearing it appears to be passing a signal with his right hand, reflecting his thoughts on posing for the photo :o

We did an episode of Dad's Army in the school play competition. We won. I played the Verger. Always loved theories.

I can't imagine anyone else playing Sargeant Wilson. But thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely watch the film.

I loved the scenes with the Verger and the Vicar in them , they were some of the funniest in the series. I'm glad to see Frank Williams is in the new film.
