Just had the 96k service done on the Freelander... a bit late thanks to an interstate move getting in the way but better late than never hey.

This has been the first service at which something extra has needed doing, namely new rear brake rotors and pads.

Anyway, when the oil filter was changed the mechanic happened to notice a huge gob of epoxy stuck onto the under-side of the [plastic] thermostat assembly. It would appear that at some stage prior to me owning the car there has been a pin-hole leak (perhaps a molding defect) that needed attention.

Ordered the new part from the UK last Friday and it was delivered to my door on Tuesday! Needless to say the offending part was then promptly replaced.

I'm curious as to whether anyone else has had issues with the thermostat assembly?

I've replaced mine on a td4 i think it had 170000km at the time. It was leaking from the mount oring

Have not had to replace the thermostat on my Freelander, it's hasn't done 4k yet! But replaced the thermostat twice on my previous car and once on the car before that.

Yeah this isn't the thermostat itself that I'm referring to, but the whole plastic assembly that comes with a Freelander 2 or many late model Rangies or Landies according to my mechanic. He's replaced them on D4's and a RangeRover Sports as well, roundabout the 100K mark in each case.

Seems as if Woko had a good run.

I wonder what the likes of Mike who has the high km Freelander on this forum has to say?

I've not had to replace anything on the motor. I've still got the original LR battery too. :) Mines 7 years old next month, so far had the diff done under warranty at 80k, new rotors a few months ago, front left cv joint about 6 months ago, timing belt at 216k and I put new shocks all round about a year ago. I regard all those as normal wear and tear except the diff. The key fob battery has been an issue as well. Coming up to the 228k service.
