Bloody remotes can any one tell me if there's a guru that can fix the remotes
Can centrally lock the car with the button on the dash
Have new covers on the remotes
If you jiggle them sometimes they work
Tested batteries and have charge. ?????
Frustrating

Thanks Dave

Sounds like a dodgy solder. I replaced the covers and batteries in mine the battery soldering is a fiddly business and one of mine has stopped working now, I'm pretty sure it is my dodgy soldering. I know others have found cracked and broken solder connections to the battery on their original remotes as well.

That will fit the problem if your case is wearing out on the keys, but it won't help if you battery if failing or if you have a dodgy battery connection which is why I changed mine. My old cases were fine, but you destroy the case getting into it to replace the battery.

Moral of the story? Try treating your keys like a smartphone - dropping them is bad! ;)

Hi, after looking around to repair my key fob on my disco 3 I found a site on ebay, it was remotefobcentreuk , you send them your key fob and they refurbish the remote and put it into a new case and send it back to you, ive just recevied mine back and I couldn't be happer, total cost was $97.00 plus $18.00 for the express post bag total time was 15 days turnaround. I hope this was usefull.

Hi All
I just posted the following on this thread http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/180808-i-really-need-help-central-locking-alarm-key-fobs-etc-etc-3.html

I've found my problem!!:):)
After not being able to get any response with my Nanocom trying to re-learn my non-functional fob remote, I took the plunge and cut it open (the button covers were ruined anyway so I had nothing to lose). There are several posts around describing how to open these fobs but I just took to it with a sharp Stanley knife, cutting through the join seam around the perimeter, taking care not to to cut too deep and also not to slip and cut myself!! Looking at the PCB under a magy-lamp I found a cracked solder joint on one of the battery terminals. A quick dab with the soldering iron and voi la - one resurrected fob remote!! This simple exercise has saved me several hundred dollars on a new replacement. :D:D

Fob PCB removed showing location of cracked battery terminal joint.

Zoomed in view of cracked joint.

Another view of cracked joint

Opening the case destroyed it so I'll have to find a replacement on-line. Can anyone recommend a decent replacement case supplier?

Hope this helps someone in a similar predicament.

Cheers

Matt

If you manage to find a workable D3 fob replacement please let us all know.
I expect there are many D3's owners with FOB's that look like filigrees, with all the rubber broken down.
I purchased a "replacement" Fob case from Hong Kong on Flea Bay, and just put it straight into the bin.
It was hard plastic and impossible to use around existing electronics.
There is the scary do it yourself video.

with a cover (below) at a cheap price....
Fits RANGE ROVER Sport Land Rover Discovery 3 BUTTON REMOTE KEY FOB CASE | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fits-RANGE-ROVER-Sport-Land-Rover-Discovery-3-BUTTON-REMOTE-KEY-FOB-CASE-/141205050072?hash=item20e07a12d8:g:4uEAAOSwl8NVWGZ O)

But after my first purchase, I am wary of the aftermarket covers and get by with some silicone to seal the holes and some care using the key.

Open the case like that and you're likely to destroy the electronics inside!!

I purchased one from someone in Australia who currently does not have them listed.

It was very similar in description to this and used the same photos.

CAR Discovery 3 Button 3BT Entry Remote KEY Shell Case FOB FOR LR3 Land Rover | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Car-Discovery-3-Button-3BT-Entry-Remote-Key-Shell-Case-Fob-For-LR3-Land-Rover-/171419950397?hash=item27e96cdd3d:g:ZKAAAOSwxCxT68x p)

The quality of this case was very similar to the Land Rover buttoned one the previous owner forwarded to me that he had ordered from the UK.

I then used the instruction from here

I received one of these during the week Land Rover 3 Button Remote Flip KEY Shell Case FOR Range Discovery Sport LR3 | eBay (http://r.ebay.com/GBA5iq). Sydney supplier, very happy with it. I just need to swap the blade off my old case onto it.

Have just done a fob changeover with an Ebay key fob suggested by Oztourer (thankyou). I didn't bother with changing the rollpin/metal key over, just separated my old case with a trimming knife (carefully), and then transplanted my key section complete, and electronics over to the new case. I used Selleys "Plastifix" (a superglue with a primer pen) to put it together and it made a good seal.
Seems that superglue is not the best option for putting halves together.
Now for the other fob.

Yes superglue doesn't work well, it needs something with more substance.
