View Full Version : Perentie Springs

I'm looking to replace the suspension on the perentie , springs are sagging a little and shocks appear to be original units.

What springs are on the 4x4 survey van? I can't find any reference to them anywhere. I have no urge to lift the vehicle although a small lift would be fine - say 25mm. ( I lifted my D1 and hated how it drove)

It is a survey hardtop if that makes any difference. Was thinking Koni Raids all round as well.

Looking for slightly improved road manners without impacting flex too much.

Anyone done it or have advice?

Cheers,

Matt

The Terrafirma HD commercial shocks would be suitable.

Perenties are already lifted 40mm front and 50mm rear over stock Defender, as measured the Gwyn Lewis way.

If you refer to my thread here (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/coil-sprung-military-land-rovers/221015-springs-springs-springs.html), I compiled a list of all the springs and there specs. When I can afford it I'll be going OME 766 and 755 springs and maybe a spacer.

Unfortunately I couldn't find the info of the Perentie Springs, but they must be around the 420mm mark and have a high spring rate.

Thanks BadCo - yes I've read your thread and that's what I'm leaning toward. I also have some helper airbags to throw in but I want to make sure I don't end up closer to the ground. Mine seems to sit lower than other perenties, in fact all the survey models seem to sit lower particularly in the front.

Probably to do with the winch, extra generator, batteries, solid roof etc.

OME 766 and 755s would be the way to go, then some packers to level it out or to get the right height.

I am interested to hear what other people think though...

Yeah I've already pulled out the alternator and mine didn't come with the extra batteries.

could it be that the front shocks/springs are done due to carrying around that lopsided weight of the 24v alternator? That thing must be seriously heavy, I'd never seen one that big before, bloody enormous!

Yeah it must have been near on 30 kilos when I pulled it out - at least it felt that heavy anyway!

Yes I suspect sag due to the weight which is why I'm out for some new springs!

I'm thinking about getting the axle weights measured once I've got the setup right. What I don't know how to do is take this information and use it to pick the right springs.

Digging up an old thread here.
I need new shocks/springs all round.

The Perentie is higher than a Defender we know, is it higher than a stock 110 as well?

Having some talks with the mechanic and his supplier about what is the normal height for the Perentie.

So, what height should they be, and where do you take measurements from?

What's the Gywn Lewis way?

That works out about right

front measures 28.5 cm

rears 33cm

looking at going with an Aussie Ryder setup

The Ultimate Suspension : Custom Built Suspension for all Vehicles (http://www.ultimatesuspension.com.au/vehicle_view.php'detail=small&vehicle_id=141)

with RFR-13HD front springs (mine has a winch so needs the extra LBA capacity)

I'm just tossing up what springs to put on the back.
Standard or matching HD with the front.

I wouldn't mind a softer ride on the rear and I'm never going to load it to the hilt or tow too much, but I wonder if that will give it a strange ride having some pretty stiff springs in the front and softer ones in the back.

Those are some sagged springs mate! Mine measure 300mm and 350mm.

I stand by my earlier post in this thread :)

huh. and I thought it was a PITA to get in and out of now, let alone another cm higher.

The setup I'm going with is supposed to be 30-50mm up from the stock 110 height. Hopefully that should be about what it is now. I really don't want it any higher.

what did you end up putting in yours?

Its all in the hop whilst hold the steering wheel. Also remove your canvas seat covers, that will make it easier to slide out ;)

You don't really want to go lower then stock Perentie height because you will limit your suspension travel as they have extended bump stops from factory.

My springs are still on the VERY long shopping list.
