Hi.

We are having alsorts of problems with the catches on the doors on a 2002 defender.

Whilst a good slam always used to work even this doesnt fix the problem any more, the bounce on the rubbers doesnt allow the latch to catch, pulling hard has also given up working. I have tried a squirt of crc hoping that the latch was just a bit sticky..but no difference. I doesnt appear to rub anywhere and after the other morning when the door flew open turning left, ineed to get it fixed once and for all.

Has anyone else had this problem or can help.

thanks

it sounds like the bit on car the door latches to is too far into the car....
loosen it off and move it a bit closer to the door and go from there....

Is the problem on the front door? I bought second hand front defender doors and am having the same problem. I have moved the striker plate so far out the door doesn't seal properly and no different. It closes and catches. However, a slight shove on the door will cause the catch to release.

any advice appreciated.

what condition is the nylon sleeve on the striker like ?

When worn (which happens very quickly) the latch wont hold over the striker.

I just wind electrical tape every few months over the strikers to build the diameter back to original.
When the doors wont close, time to do it again.

Try spraying some Silicon Spray on the door seals this can really make door closing on any vehicle a lot easier. It is amazing stuff.

if you open the door and work the lock into a closed position manually, using a screw driver, does the latch hold properly or if you pull on it will it open?
