Has anyone on the forum found a way of making all the electrical gremlins go away? Swapping out computer boards or alike and retaining original functionality of the vehicle?
Big question but I remember reading somewhere that people were replacing ecu's with Disco 1'sor something like that.
If not who do you get yours fixed by in Brisbane??

I have a rule that I swear by, especially for P38's.
REVO
Regular servicing - how else is something that is 13yrs or older going to keep rocking on!
Engine goes bang - spark, fuel, air. Good filters and plugs, leads, quality fuel, oils, water pump and cooling system.
Voltage - Look after the battery, plugs and connectors, keep the alternator happy and clean.
Over the top - Even for a petrol, if the oils are looking a tad dirty, I'll change them. I've done 3,500km oil changes after a good trip, sometimes (like my current P38) it's at 5,500km and the oil is still good so I'll stretch it to 7,000km if it stays clean.
I also avoid pulling things apart to "check" unnecessarily. If it works well, is clean and does what it should, leave well enough alone! If it's losing efficiency (EAS pump for example), get ready to give it some lovin'!
Know your baby well and it'll return the favour.
Cheers

Whats wrong with the car exactly?
Have you done this yet? **INFO** Electrical Troubleshooting (http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/7-range-rover-mark-ii-p38/28663-info-electrical-troubleshooting.html)
Do the tests and post the answers here on AULRO and I'll help you

gremlins are simply issues that are not diagnosed.
get some diagnosis tools. there is no magic fix for gremlins, they must be diagnosed and fixed.

What electrical niggles do you mean?
Electrically I've found the p38 very robust. The only weak points I would say are the under bonnet fuse box, the servo motors for the hevac, and the computers being mounted so low.

As above, change the fuse box and see if you have any problems after that

On the RangeRovers.net forum they talk of corrosion in connectors but I've yet to see it - except in the case of the OBD2 connector. Water must drip onto it.
Of course, the fuse box can be a problem. I'm sure mine was damaged by persons unknown (dare I say mechanics?) spilling coolant into the fusebox. Whenever I fill the reservoir, I shield the fuse box.
My fuse box after splitting it open (pic taken from this page http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetails/electrical/fusebox.html):

Hi
I have seen a bit of corrosion on the copper pins of various connectors, but a treatment with deoxit sorts them out.
Other gremlins can be caused by failing computers, but you need to work out which ones before you just start replacing stuff.
Also I agree the usual culprits are the fuse box, alternator and battery so look there before you start attacking other bits!

Not sure why they corrode but it's a common issue

Heater core or O rings. I'd say heater core. Can you smell coolant in the car?

I don't have a p38 at the moment but when I sold mine some years back it was only about 7 years old and already had lock and other electrical problems requiring thousands in diagnostics and repairs. It was mainly the BeCM if I remember correctly.
I am looking at buying another in the not too distant and was just wanting some experiences regarding electrics.
Thanks for the feedback.
Cheers.

They sit in the path of the return air to the ac which has a reasonably high humidity,

If the passenger side ac drain tube gets blocked the water leaks out of joint right above the obd plug.
The idea of spending thousands today for repairs I find absurd. Diagnostics are cheap now, and parts are very cheap.

AC drain tubes poke out on the underside of the gearbox tunnel. Climb under with a torch and a bit of coat hanger wire and make sure they're clear. You're looking either side of the gearbox. On the underside of the tunnel. You can get a hand up to the drain easy enough.

Any water leaks from the plenum area can also end up on the underdash panel holding the OBD connector. The OBD connector seems to be designed as a drain point, unfortunately.
