View Full Version : Normal Height Only Available error message

I've searched but can come up with nothing useful.

I am getting this error irregularly, all of a sudden. Sometimes it will come on within seconds of starting, sometimes after driving for a while, sometimes it will not come up at all during a trip.

Any thoughts?

Do you have a diagnostic tool to read the error code??

It will probably something to do with a faulty sensor, height or wheel speed sensor maybe, a fault code will give you a better idea.

I recall from other threads that "Normal Height Only" often relates to the compressor not getting up to pressure in the required timeframe.

Yep, here's a link to a post by Graeme:

http://www.aulro.com/afvb/2401828-post6.html

"The normal height only message occurs usually when the compressor is too slow at filling the reservoir which could be for several reasons including a leaking air-spring causing the compressor to get too hot in levelling work even before starting to fill the reservoir. However in the absence of a leak, it normally indicates a failing compressor due to a blocked dryer, a worn-out compressor valve or a worn-out compressor"

When our compressor started to fail, we never got this message, ours came with suspension fault, yellow triangle and some other really long message with the red triangle and just went into limp mode and down the bump stops, with the last time being right at mid climb up Zeka Spur track and right on top of an errosion hump:mad:

Wasn't that a fun experience:mad: only good thing about it, it was replaced under warranty no questions asked, nearly fell over:eek:

Baz, your compressor presumably had a bad dose of not working sufficiently to get the vehicle to the target height (normal or off-road) hence dropping to the bump-stops. Normal compressor decay gets the vehicle to target height but then can't get the reservoir to its higher pressure within the allowed time.

I got my Hitachi replaced last week. I was getting the same Suspension Fault, Normal Height Only message as mhewitt on a regular basis. Never went down to the bump stops or failed.
I let it get to the point where it came on every trip after about a couple of minutes before I was able to schedule a replacement. Main error code was CA120 (I think) compressor unable to fill the reservoir.
All good with the new AMK.

Just a suggestion before you start pulling the suspension compressor out. Take some soapy water to the end of the air dryer. They have been known to develop a hair line crack between the 2 tubes on the end or as in our case, a leak around one of the tube fittings.

No, I don't; I'll have to go to my mechanic.
