Hi,

So after lurking around on here for months I finally convinced the wife to get a holiday car that we can take off road.
Thanks for all the help so far in helping me decided what to buy and what to watch out for when buy a second had discovery

We now have our new (second hand) 06 Discovery 3.

Initially we are planning on using it as our holiday car, mainly road touring with the ability to adventure down the 4WD tracks in the national parks and head off the bitumen with out feeling unsafe. It will probably get used a little bit around town but not much.

It's going in for a C service on Monday, having a full transmission service and sump replacement and getting a snorkel put on.
After that I have a bull bar on order and some FYRLYT's to add on once the bar is on.

After this I'm considering either getting an Auto Logic tune done by my mechanic or a Spider Performance System chip.

I am finding it hard to find what I would call reliable reviews on the spider chips. Has anyone here had any experience with them.
Other questions along these lines.

1. why pick AL tune over a chip that does the same thing when it cant be removed?
2. does anyone suggest any locally available chips?
3. Any other advice?

Cheers

Cassian

Many will comment on this!
Get a BAS remap is my advice.

Make sure you spend the coin on a decent ECU re-map,BAS is one of them.Piggy pack options only trick the ecu into more fuel, not good for the engine or driveability.
Im sure if you ask somebody who has already done an ECU upgrade will let you try their vehicle before you buy, just a matter of finding one close by.

Add on boxes are a messy and risky proposition.

They often increase performance by winding rail pressure up and not much more...

A re-map will adjust multiple parameters often including throttle maps, timing, injector duration... etc...

The benefit of a BAS module is the additional capabilities as a diagnostic tool.
(Worth its weight alone in that regard)..

Over the net tuning, updates, ability to remove the tune for "back to std" diagnostic work, amongst a host of other advantages...

See here: https://secure.bellautoservices.co.uk/store/bas2-rrc-discovery-3-2-7l-tdv6/

You'll also get a tune that is customised to your needs and modifications.

Think of plug ins an illusionist... they take an engines outputs and trick them so the ECU thinks its doing something different. Then the ECU sends a signal and the box tricks the engine into thinking something different.

One of these items is fuel rail pressure.. the box tells the ECU the rail pressure is too low, so the ECU ups the rail pressure.. Then when the injector fires more fuel passes in... But the vehicle doesn't know this because its being 'lied' to...

Now what if that fuel volume is too much, and the engine is suffering damage (EGTs - melting pistons etc)?

Well the ECU cant do anything about it.. Because its being lied to!

ReMaps leave the engines entire system reading as designed and its protection limits intact...
