I have a very simple question, can a 2014 Discovery 4 3.0TDi be flash tuned or is it a case of taking the ecu out and to flash the tune directly to the chip?

It's an ECU out job.

Cheers,

Gordon

Thank you. I thought I'd seen somewhere that said they could be flash tuned.

Perhaps in the near future. GAP Diagnostic?2015-06-19 announcement, IIDTool and Remaps (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic130844.html)

To add for clarity, The D4 3.0L is not currently supported for tuning with the IID.

Is the D4 3.0 in the pipeline?

Work on all models is on going but we must walk before we can run.

The protection needs circumventing so it's pinned to tune.

Has anyone done it or had it done?

A few. But geez. How much grunt do you need in a 2.7t 4wd?

3.0 actually :D

I had the 2.7 TDi Territory tuned before getting the Disco 4 and the tune absolutely transformed the car.

2.7t (as in 2,700kg) :)

Haha my bad.

It's always good to have more power for towing the racecar.

Actually I would suggest that's the best time not to have it tuned.

When towing?

Have to agree. The D4 should lug anything anywhere with considerable, nay, immense ease. Spend the money ON the race car, in my experience.

I suppose that would depend on the tune. It would be nice if you could tune these (or any modern vehicle) to suit your requirements. i.e. Towing, Highway, Town, 4wding etc.. I had three different engine and three different gearbox flash tunes specifically tweaked from data logging for my 6ltr Sportwagon.

You mean like the towing mapping in the 3.0l that changes shift points etc when towing :)

The 3.0l will tow 3.5t at speed up almost anything.

Has anyone seen Roothy's 'real world test' in a 75 series cruiser on the Gateway Bridge, measuring EGTs and acceleration with stock, tuned, exhaust upgrade and both? He certainly showed the temps getting up more without the freer flowing exhaust, but ppl seem to think the D4s and presumably RRSs have pretty good stock exhausts?

Someone i know :o did the 'real world' test on the gateway bridge in an Audi 4.2,had to back off as it was winding off the speedo before the top:o

No need for a tune..:D;)

Our 2.7ltr D4 needs the ECU out also, last of the 2.7ltrs and won't except a download file tune.

When we spoke to DPL about a tune, he said "I can't garrantee it will work" and then said if it didn't work there was no refund, which I'm sure you can't do.
