I have a 2007 Discovery 3 SE - Diesel.

We have only had the vehicle since December 2014.

Over the last few months we have been getting the following faults - all at the same time - Transmission Fault Limited gears available, Park Brake Fault, HDC fault system not available, Engine system Fault, Suspension lowered.

I stop, take out the key wait less than 5 seconds, put the key back in and it is fine.

Very random when it occurs, has been 4 - 5 times on one day or nothing for 2 - 3 weeks, and then just once. I can't make it happen, and i can't find a constant as to when it does happen.

Took it in to local dealer who thought it may be the high pressure pump, but not certain, and could not say that would fix it - said the part is $3500 plus fitting.

Have had a service, replaced fuel filter, oil etc
Have replaced brake light switch
New battery 4 months ago

I am certainly no mechanic, but it just doesn't seem like a fuel problem to me, revs fine in neutral, no spluttering etc, fine up hill under load and revving

Would love any input advice, before i look at replacing high pressure pump - unless that is going to fix it -

Really love the vehicle and would love to solve the problem

Thanks for taking the time to have a read,

Cheers

A faulty high pressure pump will show a variable pressure they just have to be running the car at that time to see it happen so if you can pinpoint the time at which it happens you can help in the diagnosis eg. cold, hot etc
The faults you are telling us about can come from a lot of different areas such as steering angle sensor, low suspension pump pressure, alternator fault etc
If you can you need to try and isolate a fault outside the lights and whistles
such as slow suspension operation, pulsing dash lights and the like
Good luck

Try replacing the tail/stop light bulbs.

The cause is very unlikely to be caused by a faulty or failing suspension compressor. Either a fault with a component monitored by the ABS ecu or an intermittently failing alternator which does not normally occur, as alternators usually at most only give a brief early warning of pending failure before they fail totally.

I suggest that you look at the wiring harness behind the front left wheel to see if its come adrift from its mount against the chassis rail and has subsequently been chaffed by the inside of the tyre causing a fault with the wheel speed sensor. This is a common occurrence. If OK there then the steering angle sensor may be faulty or out of adjustment.

How long ago was the brake light switch replaced?

Thanks for the advice. I'll have a look at those things. I replaced the brake light switch on Saturday and it came up with the faults again today.

I'll try that. Are there genuine light bulbs or just generic?
Thanks for the help

Thanks mechanic2you. I have tried to find some sort of common thing, but no luck to date. I'll keep trying

There are genuine bulbs but some dealers just supply Narva or similar.
