Just put together a mount for my GPS.
I used the rearview mirror location as i cannot see out of the back of my 90 anyway. The mirror is removed as well as the 3 screws that hold the mirror mount in place. I purchased a block of 25mm alloy & tapped a M10 thread in the centre of it & the 3 holes to re mount.
I purchased
3 x 1" RAM balls with the M10 threads on each end.
2 x 1" RAM short arm clamps
1 x iPad mount.
I also used a piece of 16mm alloy rod with the M10 threads in each end.
Now i need to paint it all low sheen black.
Cheers
David

Looks great.
Instead of paint, what about a long piece of black heat-shrink over the shiny bits?

Now that's a magic spot to have it. I was going to use the Ram mount system from the passengers side floor/tunnel, but still kinda looks like it'd be in the way. Your idea fits the bill nicely, and I'm guessing if it turns out to be a bit low or higher that what you'd like, just shorten or replace the rod.
How has it stood up to bumps and corrigations etc, tested it yet?

You may want to check if not having an internal mirror counts as a defect and could void your insurance. Pretty sure ADRs require a mirror, but I could be wrong.

Mick, I'm pretty sure when the rear screen is blocked or covered, either from inside or outside, in a permanent fashion, it's ok.
I have been known to be wrong though :D

steveG,
Great idea, i will use it thanks
Chops,
I have not had it out off road as yet, but it will be getting a good test in a month on Fraser. If i was to do it again i would but the next size up RAM ball or look for an all metallic balls as the 1" balls are rubber & you do get a little flex. That said a little movement is a good thing stops things from cracking.
Disco Mick,
The rear of the truck has no posable way of seeing out the back as it is full of draws & stuff. So no real point of a rear view mirror in my 90
Ill run the risk:p
Just checked with a QLD engineer, as long as there are both side mirrors I'm sweet.
