View Full Version : Part Numbers

been informed that I need new brake calipers and hoses.
I've looked up some part numbers. Could anyone confirm if they are correct before I order them?
Front LRDirect.com
Front Left Caliper RTC5573 Bearmach $100.22
Front Right Caliper RTC5572 Bearmach $100.22 (or genuine $1185:o)
Front Flex hoses NRC7874 Bearmach 13.29 (2 of)
Rear Flex hose NRC 9456 Britpart $12.84
Total for Parts $ 239.86
Postage (hurts!) $120.68
Total 363.42
Which is still cheaper than what I got quoted for 1caliper from an Australian supplier! (and no, it wasn't geniune! )
If anyone could confirm these numbers, I'd be most grateful.
<edit> Also, I need a part # for the ball joint on the A-Frame at the back. Can't seem to find one.
(preferably a part with a grease nipple - I don't like these "sealed" ball joints, they just seem wrong:/ )
2nd edit to correct the Brand type. Also, LRDirect must have live pricing based on the current exchange rate. Prices are a little different than from this morning when I looked.
Cheers
Chris

Firstly. Forget ****part.
Look into ADR approved Teflon hoses :)

I don't know why I put that in there, All the parts I've chosen are Bearmach.
I'll correct the main post, thanks.

All those part numbers are correct Chris. Personally I would use a braided brake hose kit instead of the original type and I would go for a maxi drive adjustable ball joint from MR Automotive Redcliffe.

Email them for a postage quote, they may be able to do better then 120!
Here are also two choices of ball joint I have been keeping an eye on. Gwyn Lewis make some good gear so I would imagine these would be good quality.

ok guys and gals. got various parts coming over from ol' Blighty.
new brake calipers deserve new brake pads. The ones that are on there have plenty of meat, but I figure that if there is any uneven wear on them, that may translate to damage on the new calipers.
So I need a part number.
I've found SFP000260, but I'm not sure if that is correct.
Anyone have any recommendations as to what brake pad brand to buy?

HYL8655 is the LR part number for the front pads with the wear indicator wire, Chris. Look that up and cross reference with the website for a brand that you prefer. I think they are all pretty similar quality these days - nowhere near as good as the old asbestos impregnated ones of yesteryear!

Thanks Brian! :BigThumb:
Luckily I like my brakes asbestos free!
I'm doing up a list (that I will probably post up later today) of common service part numbers that may save a few of these types of posts.
Is that brake pad different from the one fitted to civvie versions?
Also, for my list, any numbers for the rear?
rear Pads
rear shoes
rear cylinders
rear drum

I have the Perentie parts lists on CD but it only runs on early Windows, e.g., XP.
Edit: I just had a look at the AULRO shop and it appears Dave has the parts list on his Perentie CD

The new wider tyres have shown up my worn front end:(.
I need new rod ends, steering damper and drop-arm ball joint.
I have numbers for everything except the drop arm ball joint.
apparently there were two brands of steering box used. How to tell the difference? (each one has a different pitman -drop- arm) and if there is any difference in the ball joint used on each brand?
The only thing I've been able to find is a rebuild kit RBG000010 for the ball joint. Anyone know if you can buy one pre-assembled?

That would be nice! Sadly at over $500 australian dollars after delivery, not an option.

lol,
now searching for decent brake pads. HYL8655
searching finds some Mintex (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HYL8655-Land-Rover-Perentie-110-Front-brake-pads-with-sensor-wire-/111523608590) for $50
or Bendix (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Bendix-Front-Brake-Pads-LAND-ROVER-110-4D-Wgn-4WD-110-84-88-4WD-1987-4WD/201317900841?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%2 6asc%3D20140106155344%26meid%3Dd1a1ea7b094749169e8 8a69af7331758%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D6%26 sd%3D111523608590) for $87
Bendix worth the extra money ?

Both of those are OK, Bendix have always been a good quality product.

picked up a set of the Mintex pads. Heavy buggers.
Still trying to find a viable solution for steering drop arm.
Not sure I like trusting my life on a $16 ball joint rebuild kit, but I can't find anything else.
Might have to get a return-to-centre steering damper so if it does break, at least the car will go straight instead of flipping when the wheels point out in opposite directions :(.
Now if only LRdirect.com would get back to me about those tie-rod ends, I could actually order some stuff!

the heck are you doing awake at 3am!?
This is kinda what I'm after. Shame it doesn't have a part number on that ad. Considering how much is riding on that link, i want to know that I'm buying and fitting a quality part.
It surprises me that you can't buy a new ball joint to get pressed into the steering (pitman) arm.
That's the first pre-assembled one I've seen with the goose-neck pitman arm. All the others have had the straight Discovery-type arm which I don't think works with the manual steering box.
The search continues ........

I don't think the discovery drop arm will work in any defender unless you change the drag link and track rod end.
Looking at the drop arm, is it even possible to remove the pressed in ball joint? Maybe that's why you can't find a part number for it...

On the drop arm as fitted to the Perentie, the ball joint is not actually pressed in. It is constructed/assembled around the arm https://www.lrdirect.com/RBG000010-supplied-by-bearmach-branded-bm.html
seems to be the only option.

No wonder you can't find a complete ball joint for the drop arm. I just checked the RPS and did a quick Google and read this

Badco,
you're a champ. I've seen that one,but didn't get it as in the description it says that it is for a power steering box, not a manual one. I just wonder, seeing as we (or at least I ) don't have a power steering box, if that arm will fit?

I used my drop arm from my manual steering box on my power steering box when I did the conversion.
So as long as they are 4 bolt boxes they should be the same. I believe its just the 5 bolt boxes that differ, but I am prepared to be corrected on this :)
If you do go down that route, by a high quality puller ;)

My mechanic will be doing the fix. There are many things that I'm ahppy to do on a vehicle, but suspension, brakes and clutch things are not something I'm willing to play with.
Hopefully he has the right tools for the job!
looks like LRdirect is going to get more money out of me.
