My IIA, a 1969 build, has a Jaeger speedo with the number 540129. I have been trying to find information on the wheel/tyre size this speedo was set up for. Darebritt**ia website lists this speedo as P/N 540129 being a late IIA with trip. Okay so far. The same site also lists a IIA speedo P/N 540117 as being for vehicles fitted with 7.50 x 16 tyres. So is 540129 not set up for that size? Can someone point me to the correct data for my speedo. I am of course trying to establish the monumental take-your-breath-away speeds my beast might achieve and I want to understand how inaccurate the speedo is :D:D if fitted with different tyre sizes on the 5" rims.

Otherwise take a GPS out with you and get passenger to check GPS reading while you hold a steady speed. Found my Series I was reasonably accurate but just have to convert from MPH to KMPH.

As Gromit says. If your Landrover has the standard speedo, and if it is theoriginal, it will be for 6.00x16 tyres if it is swb and for 7.50x16 tyres if it is lwb (and 9.00x16 tyres if it is a One Ton.

Althoough these were standard fitment, swb Landrovers could be ordered with 7.50 tyres, and if this was done, it shoould have been fitted with the correct speedo. But if the tyre size was changed by the dealer this probably often did not happen.

John does your County have the small number on the speedo face that indicates rotations of the cable to the mile wheel (or perhaps the "kilometre wheel" in it's case)?

No - nothing on it. Probably because the changes for diff ratio and tyre size on the LT95 and LT230 setup is by changing the little gear wheel on the T/C end of the cable, rather than changing speedo as in the Series setup.
