What do you guys get in yours?
I am loving the idea of a 6x6 but I have seen some scary fuel consumption mentioned!!
Cheers

What's scary about 15-16/100K for a weighty vehicle like a 6X6.

I guess it's a good thing that it's still measured in litres per hundred kilometers... and not litres per kilometer. The figures stated above are comparable to the 6cyl petrol landcruiser my old man has :o

I have seen a few internet posts talking about 21-26l per hundred for the 6x6 which is very scary!! A few posts I saw 15-16 l per hundred which is fine, but then I read a web page where they said you only get this consumption changing the diff ratio so I though I would post here to get the real numbers as I know a few here have them. I am also interested in numbers for the 4x4 and can overdrive be fitted to them? I also heard the 4x4 is longer than a normal 110 which is interesting. The tray will still be a bit small for me really which is why I am interested in the 6x6.

The PTO output is being used for the winch on the 4x4 I think, and the rear diff drive on the 6x6 but even if it was available, the 4BD1 would munch the overdrive. If you need better highway cruising then changing the diffs would be your most viable option, but if you're happy to take life easy and arrive 5 minutes later than everyone else, the you could just cruise along at their optimum speed. :)

I think the 6x6 would get close to 26's off road and in sand, etc but they are much better than that on the highway - as Bearman mentioned pretty good for such a large, heavy vehicle - remember, it is a light truck, not a car or even a 4x4, so comparing figures to them is not really comparing apples for apples.

Buy one, drive it and love it - you will. I've been hooked since my first drive of one and I've been working out how to buy one ever since... :D

4x4 - reliably 9.5 to 10 km's per litre. That's a combination of metro and freeway driving, not above 105kph.

Just by way of comparison, our 6.7 litre 4x4 MAN truck, which weighs just under 10 tonnes, averaged 24.1 L/100Km on a 12,000 Km round trip from Adelaide to Broome and back.

So I am bit surprised at people quoting 26L/100Km for a much smaller 6x6 Landie. I would have thought 16-18L/100Km perhaps, if I had to take an uneducated stab.

My 6x6 loaded at GVM used to return at worst 20L/100km......we used to belt along pedal to the metal.

Not sure you can compare a 4x4 and a 6x6 in regards to tray size, one has a tray and the other doesn't.

I get around the 20l/100km mark. Not bad for a truck that weighs 4t unladen.

For comparison, the Stage 1 hybrid gets around 20l/100km. So does the 6 cyl Merc.

If fuel consumption is a concern, buy a Prius.

1. From my first landy I was conditioned to accept 15mpg....and the fuel was probably one of the lesser expenses of owning a landy....
2. On one of your other posts on this subject, you want to travel about 20km...so for that distance, who cares how much she drinks! Just enjoy it!!

Its not that, it is 24-26l per hundred just seem a lot. My friend sold me his heavy rigid tipper truck which I use around the farm. I have not used it on the road but he tells me it uses 20l per hundred and it is a lot lot heaver than the 6x6. Which was why I was wondering if the 16-18 was more possible. I wont be doing big km in it so not a big issue I suppose.

Depends on how you drive it and varient.

Best case a gs4x4 can be gotten into 8/100 a 6x6 12.

Realisically plan on 15 and 20 /100 for average conditions, 50% more for full load and double for hard offroad.

Probably already been mentioned but you would expect around 11-12 litres per 100kms in the 4x4 depending on how you drive it and highway v city driving conditions. I own an RFSV which I have read is geared lower than the FFR and Cargo Perentie variants but I averaged around 11 litres per 100kms on a 2500kms trip to the Eastern Goldfeilds in WA about 7 weeks ago. I was driving in a range of conditions including about 700kms of dirt and the remainder on the bitumin. Probably on average I was driving around 95kmph for the round trip. I have found the best highway speed for the RFSV is around 90-95kmph although you can drive it at 110kmph but it is a hell of a lot lowder and it tends to suck a hell of a lot more fuel. Maybe more in the 14-15 litres per 100kms but I haven't driven at that speed for long enough to really do a calculation on it. Just noticed the gauge dropping a bit faster and my ears starting to ring when I have done it.
Hope that helps Chris.
Regards Warrick.

I have some rentals and today I needed to lop a few branches that were filling the gutters of the house. With the huge tray on my F truck it was three overloaded trips to the dump. This convinced me the new truck is going to be a 6X6 :D
The missus said before I buy it I need to get rid of the hj45 and the 60 series which are for sale but need a few bits and bobs doing to them so in the next days I have some car work to do so I can get my new toy :D

We recently did an 8,000K trip to part of the Simpson Desert, & Hay River track. We got 16.8 to the 100ks. Our 6X6 has the higher diffs 3.5. We get better comsumption when we are in the bush than on the highway as the brick effect comes into play. Paul.

Well done.
They aren't Perenties but 6x6 Landrovers. What motors do they have?

The white one is mine. It is a civilian model 1989 4BD1 T all standard. The other one is just visiting, belongs to Jitterbug. Paul.
