So, who's had their mirrors apart before? I'm replacing the busted electric mirror on the Hiline and have sourced a good replacement - that is a manual version. The housings look identical and have identical part numbers of them and I think I can fit all the electrics in the manual housing, I just don't know how to get the glass out of the without breaking them - that seems to be the only way into them as they are pretty much sealed up all the rest of the way around them. Anyone had theses apart before? I don't want to go poking around if I'm barking up the wrong tree, although I have one spare mirror to sacrifice if need be. ;)

Pic below shows busted electric mirror and good manual version.

Ok, I've figured it out, so I'll make this a 'how to' :D

So, the mirror just clips off - pulled from the outside edge, and wouldn't you know it - My FIL has been at this bit too by the looks of it as the clips off the back of the glass are busted and it was siliconed on...

Anyway, the donor mirror is good, although it isn't heated, but I can live with that.

One thing that surprised me was the electric mech is quite interesting - it only seems to have 1 motor and a reduction drive in it, so not sure how it works, but as it is not a Lucas part, it is very well designed. :D

And all done. The silicone is actually from the factory and helps the mirror stay put once it's seated. I cleaned the old stuff off and put a new blob in each corner and clipped it back into place.

I'll stick it back in tomorrow and that's another job ticked off the list. :). $15 well spent.
