Very pleased with myself - just ordered my 18" Compomotives from Gordon at GOE.

Thought I'd tell someone who cares! :)

Will put D697's on when they arrive late November.

I care David! I ordered mine on Sunday night. At this point... most likely D697's also.

The email to Gordon was a bit strange though....

hi guys, can you choose your choice of colour for the rim or does it come with standard colours?

When I ordered mine, it was clear that customer demand had required Gordon to expand the options the Henry Ford had offered for colours for the Model T.

I could choose from black or dark grey. I chose black. I have seen the grey and it looks pretty good too.

hi guys, can you choose your choice of colour for the rim or does it come with standard colours?

You can choose your own colour but at an extra cost, around $80 per wheel from memory. I toyed with the idea of going for a neutral silver to more closely match the OEM wheels but then decided that the Anthracite Grey will make my car look more purposeful! :D

Ah yes, but the darker colours are much better at hiding that pesky brake dust which plagues the standard silver alloys. ;)

Um, well, you can save yourself airfreight by waiting for the late September production run shipment to receive wheels late November :p

Another good reason to go for the darker colour - hadn't thought of that!

A couple of questions for those who already have these wheels - I can see the silver centre caps on Scott's wheels - they look good.

Has anyone put on a set of the black centre caps (like these Genuine NEW Land Rover Centre CAP Wheel HUB Range Rover 2013 Evoque Sport LR4 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/301602845129?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT)) on these wheels and while we're at it, a couple of questions on wheel nuts...

Has anyone bothered with the locking nuts? any comments?

and has anyone changed over to black nuts?

Well, its been a bit expensive and has required a bit of compromise in a few areas, but in the end was quite straightforward.......

Hi sctsprin,

sorry, completely off topic but can you tell me if that is a Rhino Pioneer platform and is it the 1236 width (# 44102B - 1928 x 1236mm) ?

rather than the Rhino recommended 1375 width (#42103B - 1928 x 1375 mm)

I think I like the look of your width better...less overhang.

Thanks,
David

Hi David, yep sure is, based it on the recommendations of this forum. In hindsight i would probably have preferred the frontrunner as it's most likely a lot tougher, the pioneer is a bit flimsy

Will have a look at that - I have factory extended rails so want to check out the feet. The Pioneer is pretty easy in this aspect and I can also change between just rails and the platform pretty easily.

Have you had any particular issues with the flimsiness?

sctsprin
3rd September 2015, 05:20 PM
Not really, but my awning is held on with extra long brackets that span two rails instead of one, and the edges flex a lot when you grab them pulling yourself up onto the roof

Not sure if you've got your tyres yet, but I also just got my Compomotive rims last week. Sourced some Cooper 285/60/18 from Don Cornell, $260 a corner delivered. Great result if you like that tyre.

Thanks for that. I chose to go with 265s just to avoid any possibility of rubbing and I managed to pick up 2 unused D697's in that size (265/60 18) so I'll continue to complete the set.
Good deal though - seems between them and Tempe Tyres for the best prices. (They were $335/340 on the D697's)

When first researching these wheels last year as a newbie owner I read through all those threads on the inception of the wheels. I think I've managed to NOT remember the price for them in the first group buy so please don't tell us... :D

Great combination and the tyres are very sure footed.

So are the rims available in gloss AND matte black then?

Also, my seemingly knowledgable dealer mechanic guy reckons a wheel alignment (the whole tight tolerance mode thing) is the go when fitting 18s permanently ... Has anyone done this, or have any views ????

Based on my experience, yes. I didn't initially when the wheels were changed over and the alignment was found to be quite poor a few weeks later when I got a full alignment because it was nagging me.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but it seems the appropriate place to post a question.
I fitted my Compomotives on the weekend and found that the OEM centre caps are too small and don't clip in. For now I've put three small dobs of Sika on them to hold in place temporarily. I was not aware these didn't fit.
Is this normal?
What have others done?
Are there other centre caps available, maybe GOE ones?
I don't mind the silver but would like some that fit.

Helps to offset the dark colour of the wheel.

Nara Bronze with grey Compomotive is the best D4 colour combination.
