View Full Version : Help ARB find an Icon!

ARB 4X4 Accessories

Hey guys and girls,

As some of you may be aware, our Off Road Icons project is currently under way. For those who aren't familiar with this, we are sourcing four of the most iconic 4WD's of the past 40 years, restoring them to their former glory and sending them to the Simpson Desert for an epic roadtrip. Our blog is covering the whole project (ARB 4X4 OFF ROAD ICONS (http://icons.arb.com.au))

As it stands, our final icon (the mighty Defender) is proving more difficult to find than we thought. That is where the great people of AULRO come in.

If you know of a 110 or 130 (ideally in W.A) that you think would be ideal, then get in touch. The conditions are that the vehicle must not require extensive restoration work (we are happy to repaint, reupholster, repair etc), but no rolling shells or anything to that extent, and that it falls between 1983 and around 2000 model year (don't want anything too new).

Any questions, please ask. Otherwise, thanks in advance to everyone for your assistance.

Cheers

I reckon I know an old retired guy north of the river up warwick way whose got just the vehicle...

needs a little patch and paint on the roof, its got a persistent but known ABS tone ring problem that shouldn't take more than about 4 hours a side to sort

Fair warning though, he's a little "pedantic" when it comes to electrical stuff

hell ,pull a couple of lights off of it an excusing the fact that the front diff is in on the wrong side and a handfull of inches of rubber width they're almost a spitting image

snorkle (right the way down to the head shape and grating), roof bars, most of the lights, winch bar, vent flaps, no bulge in the bonnet even the wheel height and suspension stance is pretty close..

Excellent suggestion.
A RFSV would fit the bill. It might be good to convince AFM to be associated with it as well.

There is a very nice FJ40 in ARB Penrith's showroom. Is that one of the vehicles to be used in this event?

There is a nice looking FJ40 with a for sale sign on it on the Mitchell Hwy at the western edge of Geurie.

Appreciate the interest you all have for this project. We have secured our other vehicles, it's just the Deefer that we are chasing.

Also, for clarity, we are looking to purchase outright. We won't be able to restore a forum member's ride and return it :(

I think you may be finding that with the end of production in sight for the Defender, and almost all new ones that are going to be coming to Australia already sold, existing owners are realising that if they let go of their Defender, they will not be able to replace it. Hence the problem you are having finding one.

I'm inclined to think that the best bet may be a Perentie, as gromit suggested.

what shop are ARB going to use to build it? Mandurah will be the best I think 90 percent of all the big builds are done at our shop and I will volunteer to do it. Joe runs a good shop and I think it would be good for him to retire on a build like this

Hey gezza, the boys at Canning Vale are handling this, although you are more than welcome to liaise with them directly.

Also, a heads up to everyone, we have just had our offer accepted on a tidy 1995 110. More details will hit our blog when we have possession of the vehicle.

Thanks to the entire AULRO forum for helping out. It's going to be an exciting journey moving forward.

Cheers,
Dave

I agree Tombie. I'm very interested in reading of your progress.
The thread has now been moved to the projects area, so it doesn't get deleted.
Please keep us updated.
