Hi all, I'm new to this so please go gently. I'm interested in tyre options on new(ish) D4s, which I understand usually have 19 inch rims. Any advice other than source a D4 with 18in rims which appear much less common?

Welcome Muzpickering. Your question is one that is very frequently asked, but is difficult to answer because there are quite a few opinions, brands, uses etc. The best start is to put "tyres 19 inch rim" or something similar into the search field. See down near the bottom of this page. I find the google forum search to be better than the inbuilt search found near the top of the page. Have fun.

Your first post! Welcome!!
The newer 3.0ltr diesels have larger brakes, limiting the OEM rims to a minimum of 19". There is currently an aftermarket option to fit a 18" compomotive rim giving more tyre options:

The previous 2.7ltr vehicles were standard with 18" rims, but 17" rims can also be fitted to them where far more (and cheaper) tyre options are available.
Make sure to check out the forum D3/D4 FAQ for a great collection of knowledge about the vehicles:
