Hi All, I have a relatively original 1955 86? Series 1 andrecently had a catastrophic engine failure due to the oil pump casting partingand the pump dropping into the sump whilst I was doing 60 klm/hr along the Perth northern beaches coast road.
The end result, damage wise was only two wipedbig-ends (#3 & #4) and of course, the oil pump. Clearly I was very lucky but it has meant an unplanned full rebuild. What we have found is .010? oversized pistons are fitted but they do not appear to be a Rover OEM item (should be 3 ring grooves for 1955). What I am looking for is a new set of piston rings to suit but I really need to identify who was the original supplier.
They have what looks like the following stampings on top;TOP .0015 JH RP2116 F40. The pistons have four rings each, assembled with two compression rings, an expander oil control ring and a scraper ring. Can anyonehelp ID these pistons?
I am also after a set of new exhaust valves, exhaust rocker bushes and a full engine gasket set. I know I can source from Craddick's in theUK but would rather buy from an Australian supplier if possible. Any advice or info would be much appreciated.
PS The root cause of the oil pump casting failure is unknown except to say the sump had previously been welded up and I am guessing whatever punctured the sump actually hit the pump causing a crack but this was not seen when the then owner removed the sump for repair.
Cheers....

Try JP Pistons for rings.

I can say that having .010 " oversize pistons says to me that they have bored that engine to get rid of the chromed portion inside the bore.
Those Siamese bore engines were very smokey when the lower potion of the bore wore more than the chromed part.

As above I would ask JP pistons about getting new rings.

Hi All, thanks for the feedback; I got onto JP who confirmed they can help but I will need to machine the groove deeper for their oil control ring. I have also been advised it is possibly a REPCO piston and I am trying source NOS or alternative) through M & D in Perth. It turns out the piston is .030" o/s (not .010 - I miss read my notes) which makes more sense. Anyhow if anyone has any info on Repco pistons for LR S1 2.0 litre spread bore engines I would be keen for any info.
Cheers H
